No playing of it - finishing up 1941 and then had to coax an armadillo out of the drained pool. Plus teaching weekend , so tomorrow starts paper grading all day.

I did the kickstarter for this after owning all of the original games. It's a good revamp, but I feel like they missed an opportunity. I would have loved to see an update with slightly better components (the counters are pretty simple) and it would have been interesting to have them add a 1939 game based on the same rules set (invasion of Poland) with Ty writing it in the same style. I'm glad I got it (as the old copies aren't getting any newer and they are harder to find- I plan to keep mine but play the new one), but I feel like it could have been more.

Lucky has discovered leaves outside - we start losing leaves off of our Sugar Maples here in Alabama in late July as they come in early here.

Thanks so very much for the unboxing. We wanted a more standard type of wargame in the style of a folio. The historical outcome was more of a Union Pyrrhic than a Minor victory as Bragg was able to have more time to assemble more troops and slow up the Union advance. I was the one who added in more victory levels than what Bill originally had.

Simon J. House's book 'Lost Opportunity: The Battle of the Ardennes 22 August 1914' (with the map book) is a good micro-history. You learn a lot about doctrine. Another book recommended, but which I haven't read yet is 'Pandora's Box' by Jörn Leonhard.

Joel - I think you will find it to be a playable simulation on this undermined topic. The other games of Javier's that we have played manage to distill out not just the broad outlines in a playable but fluid manner but add enough other chrome so that there is no easy formula, to allow for replayability.

It is good but the 1915 one is even more so - less drama but early on you get the sense of the realization that the Germans realized they were in far deeper - this afterall wasn't Austria, Denmark or France!
