What about the music and sound effects?
@BalleramaAC8 күн бұрын
I've got a secret reveal, it's not one that I'm particularly proud of, but because a lot of work in Shmups is repeating so much especially when I want to clear arcade games, I don't listen to the music any more. I put on a pair of headphones and listen to podcasts. However, I've gone back and listened to it. The sound effects are like they're taken out of 8-bit Aleste/pre-Aleste Compile titles, a little plink sound when something hits which is a nice throwback. The music though is quite varied, I don't think all of it hits, but I do appreciate Bayern because it sounds like someone's made an 8-bit version of a pop song, and there's some other music which sounds absolutely like an 8-bit Action title like it could be a Ninja Gaiden clone. There is stuff here for people to enjoy, but I have a lot of podcast subscriptions to get through. Thanks for watching.

why isn't there magneticsm in space?
@BalleramaAC14 күн бұрын
I've spent many a moment this weekend mulling this, looking up the current thinking on the matter. In a galaxy itself there does of course exist a much smaller amount of magnetism, however, the cloud behind the boss at the end of the first stage realistically generate enough magnetism through its dynamo action to effectively power the space toilet time portal rotation. My commentary was wrong. The things Shmups makes you look up from time to time.
@msd580813 күн бұрын
@@BalleramaAC I hope I did not waste your weekend with my idle question. I just figured magnets worked anywhere regardless of gravity :)
@msd580818 күн бұрын
It looks decently made. Music is nice. Seems like they could have used their talent to make a more memorable game instead of something so "tiny" (throwaway?) though. The boss music sounds like the boss music in Fantasy Zone.

I'm sure that in PSX version the shoot is not too powerful that here it is! Despite this, great video! Just one question: Why do you avoid change the normal shoot to laser ou plasma?
@BalleramaAC23 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching. It's a common thing in Darius games, there's a big rank increase when moving from one weapon class to another, even on max difficulty here from Dip Switch settings there is room to go up and what rank also adds is Boss HP. Bosses are shorter if you keep to missiles, with max missiles also being quite strong in their own right, and as much as I love G.T., I don't think I'd survive spending an extra minute or two with her even if moving up would make the stages themselves easier.

One would think simply having the boat constantly move forward and using the crank as a simple radial steering method would have made for a great time. Not spectacular but I feel the presentation could've picked up the slack there.

Oh yes, definitely, there's just a lot of games worth playing at Level 3 which means I'm sticking around for a bit longer than I'd hoped. There's a bunch of Toaplan games here like Slap Fight, Batsugun Special and Vimana, and also Twinbee (but I'll wait for the FPGA core for that). I've got some Level 4, 5 and 6's lined up just needing to get time to do the commentary, which also starts getting into Darius, and after Vimana I'm going to skip ahead briefly to level 23 just to show easy games can help figure out harder ones. Looking forward to putting that one out. Thanks for sticking around so far though, it'll be a long journey but there'll hopefully be more fun as I go further up.

EMBRACE THE CARAVAN!!! Love the commentary, and smart to use Stage 8 to cover the whole game. 100% true if you’re just looking to clear, not much here. I’ve spent more time trying to juice Stage 1 + 2 EXPERT than the time to “clear”. Still got to hunt around for Japanese players’ footage. No idea how they’re getting the monster scores they’re putting up. It’s a different mindset, but this is like an event or festival. The hundreds (maybe a thousand?) Terarin fans racing up the leaderboards for the next couple of weeks. I wish more shmuppers (yes it’s a word now lol$ played for score and caravan games are a great way to do it without losing your mind. Jenny = best girl 💪

Interesting idea for a series, I find it funny that they decided to include 1CCs based on exploits in the list, but a clear is a clear.
@BalleramaAC3 ай бұрын
I'm just glad it's a list that gives you the option. Cheese it now, play it properly later. They do the same with Autofire i.e. list what it would be with and without using it when it does break (like Vimana), when there's a difference on 1-player and 2-player side, and also broken characters (Like Raiden Fighters 2 if I can bear to play the current PC version). It's like a Speedrun, sometimes these exploits are quite fun. Thanks for watching.

NGL the idea of a shmup that is so easy, the game literally plays itself is kinda funny. Part of me think they did it more for the memes than anything. From what I understand of the cube mechanic, the yellow cubes disappear after a set amount of time. After using the charge blaster and turning the cubes green, they won't disappear. That's all it is, you don't get more points for green cubes vs yellow cubes or anything like this. super simple stuff.
