Thanks for the video. I always wanted to go to the Omni as a kid . At the time, in the late 80s, I lived in Philly, so I was lucky to go to the Spectrum to 👀 WWF matches. But at the Philadelphia Civic Center is where you went to 👀 NWA wrestling, which blew WWF out of the water with their storylines and matches 🤼♂️ .They were just better, IMO 🤷♂️ ‼️‼️‼️

I was just talking about that crypt show to somebody a few days ago. And how I stayed a million miles away from there I had no interest in seeing that "performance". That guy was just so beyond nasty. I do remember shows at club pizzazz when my son was a baby. We used to take the el. I got on at 69th Street cuz I'm from Delco. I think Chuck and my son's dad ran a few shows there. And I very distinctly remember Daniel Dillon stepping in some vomit there and some other stuff that I won't talk about. Not in a public forum. Punk Rock those were the days. By the way Henry Rollins is really short I talked to him at a performance in Massachusetts he did with Thurston Moore and dinosaur Jr. It was a great show I never realized how short he was until we were having a conversation about the first time I saw Black flag at City Gardens.

Thanks for the memories of Hunts pier. My sister and I always liked Hunts pier the best compared to the other amusement piers in Wildwood. It was the newest of all the piers and had the newest rides. You could tell it was newer since it had a concrete base compared to the wood of the older piers. One of my best memories of Hunts was it got me over my fear of riding wooden roller coasters. I had a bad experience ridding my first wood coaster and avoided them since. My sister asked me if I would ride the Flyer with her and I agreed. I actually enjoyed that first ride on the Flyer and it got me to ride other wooden coasters later. As an adult I have ridden many wooden coasters across the country. You mentioned the old mine ride was relocated to Kneoble’s Amusement park in Pennsylvania. The mine ride at Hunts was one of our favorite rides on Hunts pier. I have ridden the relocated mine ride that was redone as a coal mine. Kneoble’s is near old coal mines in PA so it made sense to re do it that way. The only real change was it is now a completely inside dark ride to simulate being in a coal mine. I t is a good first roller coaster type ride since there are some small drops along the ride inside the mine. However it is relatively mild so the whole family can enjoy riding it. We also liked the old Jungle boat ride that Hunts had that was similar to what Disney had just shorter a ride but did have the motion type animals and the boat captain giving narration during the ride. Their other variety of rides made them the best pier on the boardwalk.

Seriously, they need to add a statue of Dusty in Atlanta - either Florida or Texas would also be acceptable for obvious reasons. BTW, thanks for this retrospective! I'm not from Atlanta, and I'm also a younger guy, however, I would have loved to go see an NWA/JCP show or two at the Omni. Though that era was before my time, I still really enjoy that era of wrestling!

Flair was lying or mis-rememberd about the Omni and Atlanta because every heel wrestler in the late 70s and 80s WCW or NWA said BY FAR the worst venues for beliggerant drunk fans were in Louisiana and they all feared for their lives a few times and had fans attack them regularly at the local hotel/motels they stayed in like Holiday Inn and Days Inn. Atlanta and their swanky downtown hotels was nothing.

I think he just specifically talked about that night with the four horsemen on dusty at the omni. That whole segment was nuts!!!

You are right Mikey, I know Ric and he told me the story, Louisiana was the worst, the only wrestler they did not attack was Andre The Giant, Andre joined the Louisiana fans and he could drink.

Okay super important question I gotta ask: What side of the Wildwood boardwalk did you walk on? WITH the tram car or AGAINST(oppose direction) of the tram car? My dad and I (and it seemed most everybody in late 70s to 80s) walked on the side of the boardwalk that would have the tram come up from behind. So as we went from Mariner’s Landing to Sportland, we’d pass by the shops. And on the way back, we’d be on the beach and ocean side of the boards. Pretty much opposite other boardwalks where people walk like how we drive. But Wildwood was always its own thing. And I loved it. But nowadays people don’t seem know and act like it’s OC or AC. Drives me crazy. Am I the crazy one? 😆
