The shaft of sunlight in the Capstan space was particularly eerie... the last time that room will ever see direct sunlight.

Even now I see the virtue signalling environmental keyboard warriors continue to post inane comments here. Please take the trouble to actually read the description and realise this project was to improve the environment (and has provenly done so since).

How could it possibly be a habitat for sea life when it is nothing but a pollutant? Humans suck.

Whenever a ship Is scuttled for different projects they gut it of everything that could snag a diver, a pollutant, of any military hardware or anything that could be recycled. It went down as fast as it did due to precut holes and charges placed in certain areas to bring it down. The cheers are from the workers especially if it’s going according to the plans. Ie meaning sinking and landing on the bottom in a upright position. This is akin to a torpedo/s hitting the magazine of a warship. Now that’s only one of many things that could happen but this is a great video for the public to learn more. Especially docs on World War II naval operations and sinkings.

All the creaking and popping noises are the last things heard as the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald went down. It’s wicked in this video but it was a reality for them!

This was more terrifying than any movie. You almost feel like 'it's over'... how fast it can happen and in ice cold waters.

really enjoyed the unique perspective you provided with all those GoPro angles - it’s impressive how much detail you captured! but honestly, I can't help but wonder if all those cameras were really necessary. seems a bit excessive to me, especially for a single ship. what do you all think?

What would be wrong? The scuttling of Annapolis for research and recreational diving or that in 2015 GoPro cameras had become cheap enough to slap a bunch of them around her while she went down?

It would have been more interesting and *visible* if the scuttling was executed by remote-operated sea-cocks... Yes, It would have been slower perhaps - depending upon how many hull openings and sea-cocks were installed. The rate of sinking might have been comparable to that of the ill-fated Titanic. With *no smoke* to obscure the view. All -in-all, the project is pretty-damn cool. Annapolis - a 'Man-of-War' becoming a reef for the beleaguered marine organisms, joining the ranks of so many other 'reef ships' like the 'Rainbow Warrior'. And anything that furthers our understanding of the marine environment has to be a good thing.
