I saw the film in Birmingham UK & Leonard Whiting was there. As a young women it was so exciting to see him live. Myself & friends all thought he was so gorgeous.

I believe that a huge error has been made in the remastering, the video proportions are 4:3 but it has been stretched to 3:2 in this « remastered » version. It would be nice to have a version that fixes this.

Wonderful performance, full of drama, pathos and irony. Great singing and strong interaction between the main characters, the orchestra carrying the drama and forefronting it in Act 4. Thank you for making this restored version available.

Damn. Never seen a better acting performance as Sir Ian McKellan's, once Banquo has been killed, and MacBeth sees his ghost in his kingly seat. Insanely good acting.

This is my favorite Hamlet. I don’t like the modernized Hamlet. I much prefer the more traditional versions which are faithful to the original intent.

To be, or not to be, that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles And by opposing end them. To die-to sleep, No more; and by a sleep to say we end The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep; To sleep, perchance to dream-ay, there's the rub: For in that sleep of death what dreams may come, When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause-there's the respect That makes calamity of so long life. For who would bear the whips and scorns of time, Th'oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely, The pangs of dispriz'd love, the law's delay, The insolence of office, and the spurns That patient merit of th'unworthy takes, When he himself might his quietus make With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear, To grunt and sweat under a weary life, But that the dread of something after death, The undiscovere'd country, from whose bourn No traveller returns, puzzles the will, And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we know not of? Thus conscience doth make cowards of us all, And thus the native hue of resolution Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought, And enterprises of great pith and moment With this regard their currents turn awry And lose the name of action.

New soundtrack/score in my opinion, as dissonant as it sometimes is, gives it the intensity, and modern relevancy it deserves. One of the greatest films of all time. No doubt.

Dear Michael, Thank you for your message and interest! Indeed, that is the "question." Metropolis is a masterpiece of German Expressionist avant-garde cinema, and Maximianno Cobra’s score was composed in alignment with the canon and techniques of German Expressionist avant-garde music, reflecting the style and period. While the original score by Gottfried Huppertz is undeniably fascinating and captivating, it was written in a post-romantic style, which contrasts with the avant-garde aesthetic of the film itself. Best regards, Shakespeare Network - KZbin Team

I recently read Dame Judi Dench's book Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent, and literally the first play she talks of is Macbeth. And now I find a recording of her performance here! When she described everything of the production - the monochrome costumes, her black headscarf with 'a little gold crown', the 'pared-back' set - I wanted so badly to go back in time and watch it. I'm weeping, I'm so profoundly grateful to have found this. Thank you for making it available ❤

Rivetting! And the language. How beautifully spoken. However, one production fault. Hamlet wears a cloak the night he waits to meet the ghost of his father. But after the ghost leaves Hamlet no longer has the cloak.
