I flew across the country to go see this exhibit. It's one of the most incredible and beautiful things I have ever experienced. I am writing about it now for my book project. I am thankful for this channel! It was was such a treat to hear the thinking and inspiration and choices behind From the Deep in particular and this conversation opened up so much for me.

It's wonderful to hear Regina talk about the meaning, the materials, and the making of her work!

Why try to make an outdoor monument in wax. It is just wasting energy and community enthusiasm on something temporary. Just light the candle let it melt over a weekend and end the effort and exercise with dignity. Foolish to try to preserve this statue? Or raise the funds to cast it in bronze? But I expect it's just a vague representative, only worthy of a weekend of recognition and commitment. Good intentions melting foolish hearts.

Way ahead of her time! Nobody in the industry understood the assignment! I bet if she was a white woman, she would've got the respect and a national stage to show us her pure funk!
