VERY soft spot in my heart for this game. As a wee lad, it was the game I'd gravitate to during our occasional visits to the local greasy spoon and the first time I ever saw it, it might as well have grabbed me by my collar and robbed me of all my quarters. Love at first sight. Now that you've finished this, does Strider sound like a project you'd be interested in? It's another one of those games that was basically an attract-mode with a game buried somewhere in it :D IYKYK: I'm sure now that I've brought it up, anyone reading this now has "HA HA HA HA HA ha ha ha" and "He'll never leave Eurasia alive" earworming them, lol.

That’s awesome :) It was just a fantastic cabinet design and I always dropped at least a couple of quarters into it. I rarely see arcade Striders and most of my experience with that game was on consoles. But a really good game for sure. I’m always on the lookout for anything interesting or in need of love, so who knows!

Very meticulous video. I know a lot more about woodworking now which is cool. The background music though… may I suggest more 8 bit SID style music and less KZbin royalty free tunes that make our ears bleed? I used to play TRON in the arcade when I was a kid in the 80s. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

I definitely may have gone overboard with the music on this one but wanted to keep it industrial and futuristic like the movie. And it is not actually royalty-free, it comes from artists on Uppbeat who categorize them much like the content of what’s in the video and I pay an annual licensing fee. I did put up a softer music version of this reduce the impact. I’ve had people love it (and hate it) so I’ll be more careful on my future videos. Glad you enjoyed the overall content though!

Pole Position was a favorite of mine back in the day. I loved the sit down version the most as I always seemed to score higher. Other favs were Robotron 2084, Defender 1 and 2, Missile Command and Star Wars.

This was great to watch and super informative. One thing I would've liked to see was how many man-hours of work went into the restoration, just to have an idea what a project like this would entail.

That's a good question. I know it's a lot, but in bursts. I don't leave a ton out of the videos as far as the process goes but do speed up/skim sections for time. It's definitely something that would not pay off as a job--the labor really adds up. For most of my restorations the Bondo/Filler and sanding/resanding takes the most effort and time. In this video there's a section where I am doing electronics and start with the transformer and power supply and go all the way through rebuilding the monitor and putting it all together on top of the table to get the game running. That was done in one day. Otherwise the rest was just kind of hit or miss--a few hours one morning, a couple another afternoon, and so on. No idea what the total would be though :)

It's not a hard cabinet to make from scratch--the CAD drawing are out there and people sell premade cabinets. For me it's more about saving history, so I try to keep as much original as I can. I don't mind the labor or the journey; that's the fun part for me. Thanks!

Amazing restoration! You have the patience of a saint. I would've gotten frustrated with the sellers and their bidding wars which I think might've been partially made up to drive the price up. It definitely went to the right owner and home.

When I see videos like this, I wonder how there are so many arcade PCBs without cabinets. I know that back in the day, a lot of arcade distributors bought upgrade kits and used old cabinets for new games, thus setting the old PCBs aside. But, I do wonder why more people don't restore the cabinets like this when they find them.

I hate to think how much has been lost over the years. But since they take up so much space once they were in need of repair it was often easier just to dump them and keep the parts. I’m happy to have been able to rescue one :)
