This is a fantastic song! I sang it in a wonderful choir in 1978, brings back great memories.. Thanks for posting it.

This is exactly how Eph Ehly conducted this for our concert in 2004 Kentucky All-Collegiate Choir. Word painting and emotive consonants and vowels (“darkness” angry, “waters” goes in waves). Even the lighting. And the soprano note at the end. The only thing Eph did different… he held that last note until he had a standing O in the audience. And it was a LONG wait because it was an audience full of educated musicians waiting patiently for us to finish, lol.

Rally good, purity of voice. The vowels need assistance in my opinion. As are open.

My highschool choir did this my senior year. We killed it, and this brought back so many good memories. I want to sing this again so bad.

I remember singing this last year at NDSU for a men's choral festival! We also sang the awakening by Joseph Martin and they were the most beautiful things I have ever been a part of!!!

What makes it shake as it grows? Is it inhaling each time?

It also could be the dragonfly pumping fluid to parts of it's body like the wings or it warming itself to get ready to fly away.

We did this in my high school choir and sang it at my graduation. I hadn't heard it since. It really brought back memories.

My high school choir did this piece. This was hands down one of the hardest pieces that I have ever done. Great job!

This is such a magnificent song, I was in this play in 8th grade (relatively bit part since it was an upper school production). Well done!
