Actually if you discount Israel's astroterfed and orchestrated televote (which I feel free to do) then Nemo was narrowly 4th in the televote by one point from France. I don't think the juries were instructed to give Switzerland 12 points - it's just then and the French were the jury big hitters and then Slimane stuffed up his big note in the jury show. Also I think the juries may have wanted to strongly signal boost a country that wasn't Israel as the Italian vote leak made it obvious what was going on there. Although it wasn't that cynical as Croatia were only 3rd with the juries.

As much as I liked the song Rim Tim Tagi Dim by Baby Lasagna, it should never have been approved by the EBU. Because against the rules of the EBU, Baby Lasanga had used 2 old samples to make this song. He used a sample of part of a song by the group Pain. And one part of Rim Tim Tagi Dim is identical to Espectro, a demo by dj Adrián de la Vega. In February this DJ wanted to take legal action, but the matter has probably been resolved financially. But actually this song did not have to be approved. The Israeli government tried to achieve victory through a gigantic voting campaign that cost 16 million euros. This campaign also ran via rightwing website/talk shows and big billboards in the US. Many voters had not heard her sing. I can imagine that instructions were indeed given to the juries to let Israel win. Because it is forbidden to campaign with government money, they should actually have excluded Israel from participating, but that was not possible because their major sponsor Moroccanoil comes from Israel. The only way to make up for the unfair exclusion of Joost Klein is to have Joost perform in the final show as a special guest.

Thank you for your thoughtful and fair analysis of this year's contest. A big catalyst to the escalation of tensions this season needs to be discussed, and it involves members of the Eurovision press, bloggers, and content creators. Whether or not their intentions were genuine, or just clever strategies for advancing their own visibility on social media platforms, they share some responsibility for making a difficult situation even worse for this year's participating contestants. We've read articles that described how competitors were facing public backlash and potential career damage just for agreeing to take part in Eurovision 2024. I would imagine some of these competitors felt unfairly pressured to make statements, fearing they'd be the next victims of cancel culture. And then of course, there may have been competitors who believed hopping on the political bandwagon would boost their own visibility, credibility, and public favorwith the televoters. Those gestures we assumed to be 'courageous' messages of support could've very well been tactical strategies used for their own self-promotion and advancement. Regardless, the competitors never should have been placed in such a perilous situation. The stress and exhaustion of participating in Eurovision- the continuous cycle of rehearsals, revisions, and press interviews is already more than the mind and body can handle. Feeling obligated to make controversial political statements concerning another country's competitor or government is not only wrong, it's beyond the duties of the job they all came to do. This is why Eurovision/the EBU should have a no tolerance policy with regard to its contestants' involvement in discussions of political matters. As a citizen, it's Bambi Thug's right to say they think Israel should not be allowed to participate in the competition. But as a fellow contestant, making that statement should not be condoned or tolerated. Likewise, the conduct displayed by Joost and Marina Satti at the Eurovision press conference was neither becoming or acceptable. Certainly both competitors are entitled to their private opinions. But every contest has its own set of rules and regulations, which all participants are expected to follow. If contestants cannot abide by these rules, they shouldn't agree to participate. They all knew well in advance that Israel would be performing at Eurovision, and they could've withdrawn for their own valid and understandable reasons. However, it was also the press that was responsible for instigating and exascerbating division within the competition, by asking contestants questions of a political nature. These questions should also be restricted, specifically for the safety and well-being of those taking part in the contest. Because allowing them forces the contestants into providing non-apolitical responses which undermine the contest's own expressed guidelines. The entire Eurovision organization must do better to protect the contestants from this type of coercion. Because today's social media can literally destroy a performer's life and livelihood in one day.

I appreciate your opinion, but the entire point fails on a single thing: If ESC is non-pllitical, why were Russia and Belarus excluded? Was it not for an illegal war and occupation? Well, Israel has been a brutal occupier for 57 years and are now committing genocide. Lastly, the Ukrainians were wearing "Free Azovstal defenders" T-shirts. That's openly political call to release POWs that also incidentally happen to be a battalion of neonazis. If being accused of genocide and starving people isn't a cause for protest and shame, I don't see why we even should have the ESC. What? Just allow them to use it for propaganda as they do for everything else? I rest my case.
@trao1938
@trao1938 7 ай бұрын
@@Emanon... You raise a very valid point, my friend. Where does the EBU draw the line, and should there even be a line? If a country is banned for creating a war, shouldn't other participating countries- whose governments are funding that war, also be excluded, too? When the US illegally invaded Iraq in 2003, The UK, Poland, Denmark, Italy, and Spain also sent their troops. Should those countries have been banned from competing in Eurovision? How much murder and massacre by one country is considered 'too much? " These are the discussions the EBU needs to be having, because these types of problems aren't going away. Now, I will answer your question based upon what I personally believe was the most significant matter affecting this year's contest, and the one which was most crucial for the EBU to handle in a responsible manner. Because when Israel was permitted to participate in Eurovision this year, I don't think the EBU, Eden Golan, or any of us truly anticipated just how frightening and tempestuous the event would become.Still, this doesn't absolve the EBU from it's overall responsibility, which was to prioritize the safety and security of its participants, workers, and audiences, first and foremost.. No matter the event or the organizers, no matter anyone's political or religious beliefs, no matter if we agree that Israel's participation was valid and fair, the result of that decision created a working environment that was dangerous and potentially life-threatening to all who were there.. The public's growing outrage and hostility,, the swarms of angry protesters surrounding the event, the aggressive threats, and the increased security everywhere in and around the arena created an environment that was fraught with palpable fear and alarm. There is no question this heightened level of anxiety and panic affected the performers, who all had just cause to worry for their personal safety. We've witnessed past Eurovision shows where some random guy made his way onto the stage. I watched Saturday's Grand Final with feelings of extreme apprehension and concern that some horrible incident could take place at any moment. I can't imagine all the performers weren't feeling that themselves; that some terrorist group was going to exploit the event and unleash a violent means of protest. This is when cooler heads should've prevailed, and The Powers That Be should've said, "This isn't worth it." It wasn't worth risking Eden Golan's health and safety on that stage. It wasn't worth risking the safety of the other performers, or the crowds in attendance. Either Israel should've been confronted with the sobering truth that their participation wasn't worth endangering thousands of lives, or the entire event should've been shut down for the safety of all concerned. Because no one should have to endure that level of distress, for a song contest. But getting back to my point, which is the escalation of political and social messages in Eurovision through social media pundits, in the age of cancel culture..We have to be careful not to let the contest- or ourselves get bullied and ruled by whatever hot topic appeals to KZbin creators primarily seeking to boost subscribers. Cause if there's a quick bandwagon to hop on, these armchair activists won't hesitate to exploit it in the name of creating content. This year it's Israel's war, next year it could be Moldova's stance on gay rights or Ireland's escalating violence against immigrants. There's plenty of injustice going on throughout the world, and it's not the job of Eurovision to solve it.
@Blogovision

Very true what you're saying. The contestants are exhausted to their boiling point and political tensions is the last thing they should be dealing with when preparing. They came to sing. And no matter whether they were pro or against Israel, they'd be criticized by some. EBU could have prevented that from the start by not letting any country in any state of confict participate in Eurovision. It's like they enjoy the political drama surrounding the contest.

Every one knows that in the German speakung countries and that's something you sing on a party 😂 They even released other songs that are famous as well. And it was a joke entry as well. Everyone thinks of Lena Mayer-Landrut - because he was her coach. The epic sax guy became a meme because of eurovision. Lordi were weird as well (and Fins). And I love the lyric of the whole 'no rule' song. I mean if you like 'the code' lyrics, why not 'no rule' lyric? It's at least better than croatia last year. They bought a tractor. And this year they sold a cow 😂 (I loved croatia last year as well) Next year when it is in my homecountry I hope so to see a Joke entry live on stage 😂 I will get a flag of the country that gets in with the weirdest song and performance and I will root for them.

Jury winners taking the trophy may well ironically be a side effect of televote only semis - the jury bait songs get weeded out (I think that Belgium, Australia and maybe even Czechia and Denmark might have been helped through to the finals if there were juries) and there was more televote friendly songs (I don't think Finland and Estonia would have got through with juries and possibly even Norway and Austria too) so there are more options for them in the finals and it splits the vote. Let us just accept it. The public want party songs. The public want funny acts. The public want pop and girl bops. The public want generic songs. The people want straight artists more than non straight artists. The juries want pop The juries want English speaking entries. French and Italian is also good. The juries want good vocals. The juries want serious entries. Acts like Gåte fell outside so many of these checks. Gåte were even «boring». And I am surpriced by Austria, because they were everything evrybody wants. And in a «normal» year everything would have been so different about Nemo and in general, because the voting would have been very different. Israel would never have got 320 points. Ukraine would have got less, as well. So Nemo becoming 5th isn’t a good argument to eliminate juries. And were juries told to vote for him or were they coordinated to do so? You like some conspiracies, don’t you?

There wasn't a "normal" year since 2019. 2020 was cancelled, 2021 was done with travel restrictions and all performers had to isolate themselves as getting the virus meant disqualification. Then the wars had started. In a normal year the UK would have won 2022 and Ukraine's "1944" wouldn't exist. In 2023 Finland would get even more televotes forcing dropping of juries. In this year both Ukrainian and Israeli entries would have been different and Israeli performer wouldn't be Eden Golan as without the Russian war she would have stayed in Russia, might even represent Russia... What 2025 can hold? Even more wars? Russia attempting to invade other countries? NATO intervention in Ukraine? Civil wars in Georgia and/or Armenia or another Azerbaijan war? Iran-Israel war or another expanded mid-eastern conflict involving the US and UK? Global trade disruption because of a Taiwan war? Nukes flying...

well, Bambie Thug didn't face retaliation as the girl is a self-proclaimed non-binary therefore she fits in the narrative they want to push. I have never seen someone contradict his own bullshit so much in 4 lines of text, congratulations ! I guess that's normal from right wing conspiracy theory persons, but still. What was not legit about Sweden and Finland finishing 1 and 2 last year? Italians getting top 7 every time, no matter what garbage they sent, getting diaspora voting from literally everywhere sure isn't political, so Italian winner is legit ! Italian broadcaster seems very legit too, making a graphic to show semi final results on television sure looks accidential legit. I do agree there is a problem when most countries give so many 12's to the same country, but that's nothign political, that's jury bias. And that jury saved Eurovision last week, if Israel won Eurovision would literally be over forever. EBU doesn't want to push the non-binary narritive, dudes they banned that flag ! If anything it's the public vote that's most political, it's the public vote that makes this contest most political, and there is nothign you can do to prevent sheep people vote for a nation just because it's in a war situation. Juries have serious issues, but the average person voting seriously has issues.
