I used to talk to Jimmy whilst out walking dogs, maybe around 2014, a true gentleman. I never mentioned the game, I think he thought I had no idea who he was. He had a Labrador, I had two Staffords,, we just used to talk dogs and general stuff. He loved dogs and helped local rescue centres.

What a great player and man he was. As a recovering alcoholic myself coming up to 15 years sober, it really was great listening to Jimmy. He was a legend as a player and a man and carried a great message to many people... I still miss The Saint and Greaves show .

And all because of competition name change in 1992, most people credit Alan Shearer with being the all time top scorer, when Jimmy Greaves (and 13 other strikers) are miles ahead of him for career goals.

Arrogant, ungrateful (to the country he lived in and gave him everything) over rated. Greaves Pointer and Bobby Charlton were much better players and had something Law never had humility. I disliked him almost as much as I detested that cowardly thug Norman Hunter.

never new him as a footballer but i think it was 85/86 when saint and greavsy hit the airwaves i think and after mexico 86 which they really did well and relaunched using the theme tune from it it was just great,,

I am an Evertonian and he has been my favourite player since the first game I watched him live in Everton v Man Utd at Goodison Park under the lights in 1963. The man had everything, I was so envious of Utd fans who got to watch him week in and week out.

Best goal Denis scored was against the rags in 1974, you know, the back heel, another nail in the coffin that seen them relegated, happy day’s indeed.

I saw Dennis playing for Manchester City against Luton at Kenilworth road in the F A Cup and he scored all six goals for City but because the rain waterlogged the pitch the ref abandoned the game. In the replay Luton beat them 3-1 and Dennis scored City’s goal too but went out of the cup. Really lucky to see him play.

I saw him play when I went to my first match at Old Trafford in 1969 as a 10 year old and he was captivating. He had everything: skills beyond belief, swagger, hard as nails, a cheeky grin, and a desire to win. I couldn't wait to get a long sleeved shirt and hold the cuffs like Denis did, and raise my arm to salute a goal even though these were just in knockabout games with mates on cow-pat covered impromptu pitches. Much later, in the late 80s or very early 90sm I can't quite remember, I was invited by other Irish businessmen to a fantastic sportsman's dinner organised by Jackie Blanchflower, where a number of famous ex Utd and City players were mingling on the tables with guests. The two main speakers were Denis and George Best, and I was lucky that we were on The King's table. He was an absolute gent, with a cutting, witty sense of humour, and no edge about him at all. An unforgettable experience. It's a bitter-sweet moment now seeing how we're all growing old and in various stages of failing health, but I'm glad that I experienced meeting my all-time hero and sharing a few hours in his company. Lawman, you're Simply The Best !

Always liked Jimmy Greaves on TV. So down to earth and always up for a laugh. Obviously too young to remember him playing but should have got more England caps with that great goal scoring. It seems England managers just didn’t like maverick type players until the late great Bobby Robson came along.

Bought this on VHS as a kid in the early 90s. Brilliant interview and Jimmy was a very articulate and intelligent man. Genuine world class striker. Probably the greatest goalscorer that England has ever produced. Football aside though, they touched on his alcoholism and his recovery. Back then people were quite reticent and few understood these problems and how they came about to sportsmen. Credit to Jimmy for speaking so openly and honestly about it and also being very humble. He was a top bloke. Credit to his wife and family too in his recovery. Sadly not all wives or people are willing to help a husband or family member. It takes great strength and thanks to the efforts of both parties, Jimmy got himself back together and live a good life❤
