I visited the Oudolf garden in Detroit, and it felt like walking inside of a Van Gogh painting.

Does this encourage thicker new shoots to come up? I'm wondering how to get nice thick shoots

Kudos for the Video! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Saankramer Breathtaking Design System (just google it)? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for learning how to design an amazing dream landscape without the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my best friend Jordan after a lifetime of fighting got great success with it.

There are an estimated 1545-over 1600 types of bamboo. It's as valuable as electric cars and solar power once people come together.

I'm guessing that is weaver's bamboo, or bambusa textilus gracilus. Very hard to come by in the US, but common in Oz...

how do you contain your bamboo? has anyone every tried growing it inside of a container of some kind? I was thinking about using half of a plastic 50 gallon drum. thank you

If you get a clumping variety it will contain itself to about a 5 foot radius

If you can get hold of a 50 gallon plastic barrel it will be fine with the top and bottom cut off but it probably won't have the same life expectancy of a proper root barrier. It will probably degrade in 5 or 6 years whereas a proper root barrier will last four or five times as long.

Hey, Nice video, there is an old top heavy damson at the back of my garden with long bare trunks (its my neighbours tree) I recently saw someone else rejuvenate there cherry plum trees by cutting the trunks down low and new shoots sprung up. It had low new branches and fruit the next year. Could I do this to my neighbours Damson next summer(to avoid silver-leaf disease) if they give me permission? We lose half a day sunlight behind there giant Ash tree and Damson. I Hope it was ok to ask that!

Terrific video. You've managed to capture something of the phantasmagorical essence of Oudolf's artistry and painted a compelling portrait of the man and his work. I say that as someone who's studied his books backwards and forwards and visited many of his gardens, Hummelo included. I particularly like how you show the details of his creative process and the uncertainties he encounters along the way. For passionate gardeners like myself, they are lucid insights into the mind of a master.

@mongoose000 @mongoose000 Thank you very much. My work in Hummello was very interesting, inspirational and educative. I would be happy to tell you about it over e-mail. I am now putting the lessons i learnt into practice around Cheltenham, England I see you are from Canada, where abouts?
