The diesel heaters kept us alive so we will have to do another winter camping trip. Maybe when the low is -3c. I was comfy at night but the daytime/evening was a bit chilly. Great filming and drone shots - enjoyed the vid and a special bonus - a John performance. First time seeing or hearing you perform after knowing you for 25yrs and working together for 20 of those yrs. Nice add to the video!

Agreed, not a big fan of my coffee freezing before I was done it. Ha, when I saw the clip of you with drone the song "Every breath you take" came to mind so had to sing it. A smart guy would have actually warmed up and practiced before putting it on the interwebs, but, you know me. Maybe should have practiced 4 times haha. Well, unless you're in my basement you won't see me perform much. That'll change, slowly. Thanks. And time flies doesn't it?

You made winter camping look comfy lol. What is the brand of dash cam you have.
@mayimet17163 күн бұрын
Thanks Donna! Some of it was comfy. Sleeping for example. Its the rest that was cold! The dash cam is a VIOFO A129. Not sure if they still make it, but a really good and reliable camera. It came with a front and back camera. At the time it seemed to be the best bang for the buck and now it lives in the truck full time. It was great meeting you! And see, you were the wood lady after all!

Powder wasp killer works better just stick it through the nest and it will travel between the comb and works faster than liquid or foam
@mayimet1716 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. For this job without a vacuum, the best would've been to blast some powder into the hole. Let the wasps track it in. Best yet for a quick fix would be to vacuum, then use powder. The new wasps may have hatched whilst we were away, but would have tracked the power back in. That foam spay smell is probably still there today if I get close and sniff the wood. Either way, made for an eventful day and nobody got stung.

Think the thief's vehicle is a 2008-2012 Ford Escape.
@scalgary42933 жыл бұрын
Are there two losers involved in the theft? I wasn't able to really hear any cutting or grinding noise. Was someone else under the car while this guy kept watch? I have seen other video where one creep cuts it off and the other loser keeps an eye out.
@mayimet1716 Жыл бұрын
I think there were two. From other video's there are typically two. Yeah, the camera's didn't pick up the grinding noise unfortunately. For these two dick heads who maybe made $200 it cost a young couple close to $1000 as they had to replace the entire exhaust assembly. Not to mention their time and inconvenience as they were just visiting their parents and are from Lethbridge I think. So of course, the parents feel bad as well. Only hope karma sticks a converter up the thieves arse.
@renoguy253 жыл бұрын
what make/model/yr was the vehicle that it was stolen from....I can't make that out in the pic , I would guess that would have been taken to fill an order , verses , just a random target ?
@mayimet17163 жыл бұрын
I thought this might be a fill order as well, but have since found out they are just shopping for catalytic converters. Our neighbours must have had that car for a good 10 years. It has I-VTEC DOHC on the back, so I think that's a calling card now. I've since discovered that there are guys just driving around looking for these vehicles. From what I've read, in this order of preference: #1 Toyota Prius / #2 Honda Accord, Honda Element, Honda Odyssey / #3 Ford F250. I guess also any hybrid type vehicle. I guess this started about a year ago and was on the news. I must have been busy watching Netflix. I'm going to scribe my plate number on ours so at least when/if they find it. It can be matched to a crime. Also will weld up some kind of cover, but I doubt an old '95 vehicle is sought after.
@mayimet17163 жыл бұрын
This was created before I knew this was a thing. A big thing. Just google it and you'll find this is a big business as the precious metals in them can be worth more than gold. One defence is to etch a number or plate number into the converter so at least it can be ID'd. Put a sticker on your window indicating this has been done. I'm still looking into other defences now that I know.

Learned the hard way,never use a sealer .We used foam sealant where they were going in around a back porch light.They chewed through the plaster and were trapped in the house.Looks like dish soap works if one can access.
@mayimet17164 жыл бұрын
Haha, that's the way I learn the best. The hard way. Also, the dish soap won't soak into the wood and stink up the place for ages. Very unhealthy using the spray can stuff as well I'm sure.

Soapy water at the bottom of the shop vac kills them fast. I tried applying diatomaceous earth few nights but I'm getting impatient. I will probably use shop vac as well.
@mayimet17164 жыл бұрын
I tried the water in the vacuum once. It did kill them quick, but found I had to discard the mucky mess afterwards. I just keep the bag on and suck 'em up dry so I can dump them easily later. Seems to work so far. They stink after a while though. I did do a quick peek after I was done with this nest and found some barely moving, but mostly just parts of wasps. The bumpy hose really does a number on them. The longer the hose the better I think. Also, put a bend or loop in the hose so they really have to ride the rails.

I'm glad. I've used this vacuum technique for a couple more nests. Seems to work good. I don't use chemicals anymore as that stink stayed in the wood for over a year. I'm sure it's carcinogenic.

I suggest throwing a big rock at it. DO NOT DO THAT, I WAS JOKING.
@mayimet17164 жыл бұрын
I was 12, my buddy dared me to chuck a rock at a hornets nest. I was stupid, I did. Of all the times for my accuracy to be dead on. We got a head start running and I had to drop my jacket, but somehow got away unscathed. My first and last time chucking rocks at nests.

Taking on the WCT alone? Was this your first time on this trail?
@mayimet17165 жыл бұрын
Yes and yes. I just wanted to experience the trail my own way. I enjoy photography so typically end up going at my own pace and on my own tangents. That and just be there on my own with no distractions to take it all in. I am very grateful I had the opportunity to have that happen.
@claudec25885 жыл бұрын
Interesting Video. I'm hiking the WCT in August. What month did you hike it. Our group is debating whether we should take the forest route and by pass the boulder field.
@mayimet17165 жыл бұрын
Thanks Claude. Most video's are a very brief summation with funky tunes. That's great and I watched them all, but the video's I resonated most with were an individual just walking through the forest with the ambient sounds, so I wanted to reflect that. As lousy as the resolution looks on KZbin, I was hoping to reflect what it was actually like to be on the trail. I was rambling ,but was trying to describe the senses somewhat that you cannot pickup on a video. Helps me revisit the trail and its great if anyone gets anything out of them. Even if its "I'll never do my video like that!" It can only help in increasing the video quality from others. I researched the bajeezuz out the trail. I wanted the driest week possible. That ended up being last week of July into August. Sounds like your group is already booked, excellent. IF you are looking to experience all that the trail has to offer, and IF your schedule permits the low tides during your passage around Owens Point, and IF the weather is favorable, and IF your schedule allows for the extra day possibly, and IF you all have decent boulder climbing abilities then I would say go for it. I would highly suggest doing it first for most enjoyment. So South to North. If you go from North to South, timing the tides may be tricky and it might end up being a slog you will just end up saying 'f' it and take the inland route. For me it was a must and I scheduled and planned around it. In hindsight am so glad I did. Would I do it again? Depending on who I was with, my goal would be to just finish the trail, so would travel WAY lighter and just focus on finishing and not photography. So glad I documented as much as I did this time around though. Training tip if you are going North to South: tire yourself to exhaustion, starve yourself or at the very least change your diet for a week, pick a rainy day, then go climb a steep mountain with a heavy soaked pack. If you can do that, coming out of Thrasher will be easy. I was so happy I went down that hill. Might be better now, but I only wished they had more ladders coming down into Thrasher and could only imagine climbing back out in the rain once I was exhausted from prior days of hiking. Especially if the boulder route was taken the day before which was hard in a climbing over stuff with a top heavy pack kind of way. One would certainly be using different muscles, which may or may not be a good thing and maybe a good warm up for climbing out of Thrasher.

Very informative. Super helpful! I would like to know if the days from early to mid-July are booked out quickly or not?
@mayimet17166 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve. Nice to know I helped someone. They do yes. Not as quickly as the big four (last 2 of July, 1st 2 of Aug), but they do go fairly fast. Also if you have a group of 3 or more, you'll want to be on it quickly. Depending on your group size, you'll have hours to maybe a few days I'd guess. I hope it all goes well for you either way.

I have to do my canon s-95 so now I realize its quite a breeze. A couple minutes will be worth it rather than throw the camera out. On the ribbon connectors can you please say how they come out--where did the puncturing risk and denting take place? Will I be pulling straight out?--sideways? up? any info helps. I will let you know how it goes after watching your video I estimate it to take a minute possibly 2 or 3. Good video you win the award man. As it went on and on I was astonished. You have balls as big as grapefruits.
@iatdome6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeff, but it was either clean the sensor or replace the camera. If it worked, it saved me the cost of a new camera. Still going strong and the go to for the wife. The connectors just pulled straight off the following the path of the ribbon cable. So just straight on / off. I thought it would be tougher so I tried to pry them gently with a pointy object that when I slipped, made a dent. In hindsight you could probably just pull on the ribbon cable. I just didn't know how well they were attached to the connectors and how well the connectors were attached. Mine were just a lightly snug fit at best. Thanks, it was these types of vid's that I was searching for before I tried it. So, like you said, every little bit of knowledge helps.

Yeah, KZbin kind of trashes the image quality. Don't know why. Have spent hours trying to figure it out. Days!. So for new folks that might be a bummer, but I found I got used to it. (I compare it to the original clips). For anyone who has done the trail though, the images really have an emotional tie to them. Like "Oh, I remember that spot !!!" This first leg really was the best place on Earth for me. I think of here when I want to feel peaceful.
