I think this was a bug with paint. It affects every weapon in the game not just chargers. Each little paint splotch that lands in the middle of a change in terrain height can only paint one side of the height change, so half of it gets erased. Most weapons don’t notice it, because they shoot a lot of really small paint splotches, so loosing most of one of their splotches to terrain doesn’t matter because the rest of them are fine. Chargers however tend to have a small amount of really long or large splotches, so having a splotch get eaten is horrible. If my memory is correct this means that this even happens over ledges, it’s just most visible over slopes because you can see it not paint properly right in front of you.

Yeah that’s all fair and well, this bug was very much at the front of charger players minds, especially the short to mid range chargers. It gave us an unnecessary disadvantage meaning we would have to look away from the battle for split moment when we could’ve been doing something that would’ve impacted the game whether it be our positioning or pressuring. It’s just wild that this wasn’t a bug in Splatoon 2

Except I've been playing tuber since day one and I DEFINITELY don't remember this affecting us goo mains, only the bamboo bros. Goo Tuber has always had our good paint, right? I might have just never noticed it though.
