I did see a few tiny ones at the surface, so I’ve covered them over with more soil. I don’t think it’d start them in pots again, as it means they’re not buried as deeply when transplanted

This is an old short now. There’s been many a carrot harvest since then. I’ve used an equal mix of potting compost and play sand for my carrots. They seem to do ok on it. This year I also sieved some of my bulk buy vegetable topsoil into the carrot boxes on my new vegetable garden. Had the same results. The sand must be the key. Apart from that, I guess I’m lucky that my business is also on our farm, so I’m around in the day. I can water at will and whisper sweet nothings at my crops ☺️🤗

Thanks Holly. I love the fruit cage too, it’s so sturdy. Might be extending it over winter yet. Not sure. I really need to sort my strawberries out in to when they crop, but I think everbearers make more sense. They grow well undercover. You could have some in your polytunnel. Those blueberries. Hi Clare, great video on how you clean your polytunnel 😊 what a great method of having fleece in the polytunnel, especially the poles, brilliant idea! Shall use that next winter. I certainly need to remember to have cauli & broccoli to grow in my polytunnel, too. I do have winter lettuce & spring onions growing in my polytunnel and are doing well with our recent frosts. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

Hi Christine. The fleece seems to be working ok for the tunnel so far this year. It’s easy to put it on/off the plants too. I’m really hopeful of having a good early spring crop in the tunnel, so I can worry less about things bolting in summer. I’ve had such poor luck with spring onions this year. The ones in the tunnel aren’t looking the happiest now either. Thanks for commenting. Hope you are having a good week ❤️

Hi Clare 👋 Just started watching your video and realised I'd already watched it a few days ago but hadn't leave a comment 😂 Fab update as always. We had amaranth on our plot left by previous plot holder and we pulled it out as Doug thought it was invasive 🤭 Yours did look fab didn't it. You did loads of jobs before the snow arrived. Wow.. hello all the way from New York 👋🏼 I bought that hat when in Manhattan, so it’s an authentic tourist souvenir hat. I have visited twice. Once in October 2018 (with a girl friend) and the second time in June 2019 (with my husband and daughter). Then Covid hit and my father in law died, so we’ve not been able to go away as a family and leave the farm since. It’s such an amazing city and so different to anything I’m used to living in the countryside here. You will get lots of snow and super low temperatures soon enough, I’m sure. I can’t get over the extremes your climate has summer to winter. February sounds a good time to start seedlings. I started way too early this year and they became unmanageable. Note to self: start chillies in February here too ☺️ Thank you for commenting. Lovely to interact ❤️❤️

I think I’m going to extend the fruit cage soon, so I can have a a bigger strawberry bed. Hi Christine. I do see you pop up on Danny’s channel, you’re so knowledgeable and such an active participant. Lovely to see you stop by here too. Thank you for subscribing ❤️ I am very lucky to live where I do, even if there’s a motorway running through the farm. I was not allowed pets as a child. My parents always said I could have as many pets as I wanted when I left home. I certainly must have kept that in mind when I met Duncan, a farmer, and ended up moving here in 2001 ( during the Foot & Mouth epidemic). I am really experimenting with the brassicas this winter, as I didn’t do too well with them over summer. Not sure what on earth happened to the cauliflower seedlings I had. The variety I’ve got planted is All Year Round. As the name suggests, you can sow it anytime. I sowed mine at the beginning of September but also bought a few extra plug plants from a local nursery, as they were on sale. I’m really hoping to be able to freeze store a lot of brassicas for summer eating, in case of being unsuccessful in the changeable summer weather with them again next year. Hope you have a fabulous week in the garden ☺️

Smattering.. there’s a word I don’t hear very often anymore. I love that word. ❤️ We’re back to biblical rain, flooding and strong winds now. I really wish we could go back to the winter wonderland already 😂🙈 My favourite blueberry is the centre one of the three. The outside two are pink lemonade. Unfortunately they flowered earlier, so were caught by a late frost and didn’t produce much. The centre one came from a Blue Diamond garden centre and was simply labelled “garden inspirations”. It was so prolific and super tasty, with tender skins. I’ve sourced another one to add in over winter, but I’m thinking of extending the fruit cage first. 🙈 Looks like we have a drier week forecast, so hoping to get back in the garden and sort out everything that’s turned to mush 😅 Have a fab week ❤️

@@TheFarmyardGarden Thanks Clare! Hope the storm has left you undamaged, as biblical rain and flooding doesn't sound good! I'm just catching up with the news and it looks like some folk are having an horrendous time! Smattering is a good word- fettle and nesh are favourites too lol!

Hi Clare, it was lovely to see the winter scenes, good usage of the asparagus foliage.

Thanks Ady. I imagine you also had a good dumping of snow there too? Was so pretty. Shame it’s been biblical rain and strong winds all weekend 😅😭

The asparagus bed looked really cosy, think I wouldn't mind snuggling up in it 😁

I remember thinking the same, Sarah, whilst I was chopping it down. So toasty. I hope the crowns will be ok 🙏🏻 Did you get much snow?

I don’t mind the snow but I detest a rapid thaw, especially followed by so much rain. Everywhere is very, very soggy now 🙃

@ it’s all happened in the last week. Heavy rain, then the snow, now it’s all thawed and we have had two more days of monsoon rain. Not quite ready to put them in their winter grazing, as there’s a section to fence off where a land drain has collapsed with the water pressure 😅
