He is absolutely right, general public at that time did not have access to internet as they do now, and these fests were the only way we could see all the people behind the making of a film apart from the actors that we see on screen. The writers, the singers, the directors and producers. These fests were all the screentimes they had those days and the hosts usually ruined them by making fun of them and not letting them speak. Ofcourse, it's the job of the host to make these events entertaining otherwise people will get bored, but the method clearly dictates the lack of creativity in the film industry.
