Thanks for the video. Just wish some of these larger battery banks (some sold as CPAP batteries) would get with the 2024 times. Get rid of or just provide one USB-A (QC 4.0) & USB-C PD140-240 (PD3.1). Not sure we need an 120 AC Inverter anymore...especially with the PD60-140 USB-C to 5521 Barrel cables. Would cut weight, possible cost and make it MORE appealing to end-users.

@@L2Survive Do you know if it will work from within a vehicle's windshield?
@L2Survive
@L2Survive 9 күн бұрын
It depends. I have seen a few videos of people using it on the dash of their vehicle. The dish has, I believe, a 110° field of view. This allows satellites to connect to the dish before the current satellite is out of view. If you place the dish on your dash, you limit the view of the dish by the roof of your vehicle or the A-pillar (door jam), mirror, radar detector, ect. You also might not get the exact perfect position or even elevation. It will still get signal but, there might be a break in that signal. If you are streaming a video, the buffer might be enough for you not to notice. If you are on an important video call, put the dish on the roof.

@L2Survive
@L2Survive 11 күн бұрын
I am paying $120/mo for my Starlink Gen 1 original dish. I paid $499 for it and didn't care because the best internet speed I could get was 5mbps up/down and that cost me $170/mo. Starlink at the time was $99/mo and I was getting 150-200mbps. The Starlink mini cost me $599 to buy and is an extra $30/mo for 50GB. This is perfect for camping and as an emergency backup for power outages or traveling where there is no signal for anything. $150 is what I would have paid to switch my Gen 1 account over to a roaming plan. I call it a wash.
@mingoglia1
@mingoglia1 12 сағат бұрын
Supply and demand. $150/mo for unlimited data on Roam is a deal.... because it's the only option in many places. No, it's not as fast as the 2.5 gig speed I get at the house, but I have several options at the house, which drives the cost down. Now when I'm in the middle of the desert in AZ, 100+ Mb/s is a great price when there aren't other options. You have to pay for bleeding edge technology. I'm in corporate IT and remember paying (well, my company), over $2,000+/mo for a 1.54 Mb/s symetrical T1, and running 250 people off it. At that time most were still using dialup and 1.54 was almost magical. I remember employees staying after hours to surf the web at "magical" speeds, compared to their Prodigy/AOL dialup they had at home. You have to pay to play when you're adopting new technology.

Do you realize this only worked because you have a PD power supply. My unit when I installed it in my tesla I found the mini is 12 volt at about 25 watts out of snow mode. I used the car charger cigaret power cord to 5521 only because I don't trust Chinese usbc pd cables for not running long periods at higher power. Good machine, I'm disappointed I can't drive with it. I hope it's not absolute next year when they offer the cell to sat service.

I do realize that which is why I mentioned it in the video while talking about the cable and the PD port. Even if it becomes obsolete after a true Starlink phone comes out, I think I'm still going to keep it in my emergency kit. Two is one and one is none. Currently I have my cell phone, then my Visible burner phone (unlimited WiFi hotspot), another Visible phone in a bag with a RAVpower router, battery banks and a solar panel. This thing would be amazing with a built in battery. It would add some weight though. I don't think it would last long on less than the battery I am using which is around 3lbs. Solar would be harder to add to this because the dish needs to point Northish and the panels would have to face South Eastish. Maybe if you could have the panels run behind the Starlink mini. The panels would add a couple of pounds too. I give it about a year and you will be able to buy a case to put the Starlink mini into that has a battery and fold out panels.

It worked great using the AC outlet on this little battery just like your Renogy. The loss you get in converting DC to AC then back to DC is something I am trying to fix. If you look at the description to the video, Starlink is trying to figure it out as well, but have not yet.

My camping setup varies from me and a text to the whole family, a chest freezer (better than an cooler), and my mobile solar setup to power all of the other comfort of home. My last trip was just us renting a cabin. We took one bag each and out Starlink Gen 1. I have not tried to make a call on it off grid but, our burner phones have WiFi calling and we all have a Google voice number. I've seen people streaming 4k videos on the Starlink mini so, a Google voice call should work fine. The biggest tip to the Mini is finding enough open sky. I have done some testing. If you have even one tree blocking some of your sky, it will be harder to do something that requires a constant connection. Streaming movies would still work because of buffering.

In-motion use is supported with Mobile Priority service plans and the Flat High-Performance hardware, which is designed for permanent installation on your vehicle. If you try to use the Starlink Mini on just the regular Mini $30/mo plan, it will work for a little bit then it will start telling you that you are doing bad things and that your plan is only to be used while stationary. If you are trying to use WiFi while in motion I would suggest a phone with an unlimited WiFi hotspot. I use Visible for that www.visible.com/get/?38lnwG Here is a video about my set-up kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKGvo6WEhapgp5Y We have four of these phones and plans. There are plans that will give you mobile roaming but, I think for being on a boat you need the Starlink for boats plan and equipment. www.starlink.com/boats High-speed internet on the water. Starting at $150/mo with a hardware cost of $499.

I want to say thank you again for all of the full tours you download. I've watched all of them repeatedly. At this point they are my therapy but the pruning ones are the most important. I've started learning how to prune just by these videos of Paul.

You are welcome. The pruning videos teach so much about how to care for your trees. The grafting videos show you what to do with the stuff you pruned. Check them out.

I am blessed my neighbor told me about Paul Gautschi and Back to Eden this spring in time to get started. I just wish I had known about this years ago

I got the offer to buy one in an email from Starlink. I heard that only 10,000 people received the offer and I would think that less than half bought one.

Paul is a wise wordsmith. Someone needs to write a book with his sayings. Gardening with God.
