I love moments like this, when mishaps lead to unexpected beauty on stage. Same thing happened when I saw them in Asheville a couple years back, Dug broke a string during “Carry the Zero” and Melanie kept the song going without stealing focus. The crowd ended up singing the last verse and then Doug returned just in time to tear up the final solo. Maybe my favorite concert moment ever ❤

Melanie improvised insanely well! Classically trained on bass by the way. Love the recordings man!❤❤ Any reaction from Dug?

He lost a string on the black one early on in the show and brought out the strat and had to tune it for each song. Still awesome!

@@jasonlarsen5497 interestingly, this is not his original candy red strat plus from 80s, that had Karena and Ben written on it. It's a new one, with all pickups functional. The original red strat got refretted that many times, he won't be able to do it a lot of times again, so he only uses it as a backup (maybe even not now, as he used this one). He practices/plays so much shows and stuff he will use his guitar to the fullest. If he had those nitro finish guitars, there would be no colour left. Even his poly finished strats, especially the Ben one, but his black one show a lot wear, which is not that usual. Especially scratches caused by pick.

Great video! May I ask what month you visited and did this excursion?
@jasonlarsen5497
@jasonlarsen5497 10 ай бұрын
We visited in October of 2022. I have done this twice now, the last time was in Nov. It can be a hit or miss with the weather. We got blue skies both times. I will do this excurision every time I go there. The first time we rented the 3 wheelers. I would recommend the quads, like the ones we used in this video. More stable and 4 can fit. We did the half day excursions. The guide was awesome, and for the money, you get a real bang for the buck! Come prepared with warm clothes that time of year. A bennie and gloves are reccomended. Better to have them than not.

Thanks to Kerry Liven (and his wife) for bringing this song to us. It almost didn't make it onto the album Point of No Return. This song is such a master piece of musical art.

Kansas has been my favorite band since about 1977. Saw them several times, including early in 2022 when they performed the entire "Point of Know Return" album, along with a lot of other great stuff. When you consider that Kerry was just fooling around with a finger-picking exercise when his wife suggested that he make a song out of it, it shows you how a genius (and Kerry is one, for sure) can derive inspiration from the most unexpected places. Truly one of the great rock and roll songs of all time.
