Thanks for the in-depth about the accessibility. Was lookin into it and couldn't find anything in the official website ( which i think should be fixed ).

I'd like to know who came up with the idea of using puppies in their fundraising. The idea is pure genius. I'm curious if the idea came from in-house or from an outside consultant.

I love how Matt points out that we all deal and have different levels of site loss. In my own personal experience, I have always separated myself from my vision impairment. That has all changed, however in the last few years, where I both more readily accept myself, and have become my own advocate. Thanks for sharing Matt’s story.

I’m so glad I found this podcast, and oh what a coincidence that I found this episode first. I’ve moved countries on my own being a legally blind person. No family, no friends, just me. Sometimes things didn’t work out as well as I thought, and then I had to move again. I’m considering moving to Canada, but before another major decision, I am researching things better and in more depth. So that’s how I ended up listening to this podcast. Thank you for sharing.

I have been using TurboTax online for free the last few years to file my taxes but then I can still, barely, read the computer screen. One nice thing about these online services is that they will retrieve your T4 or other such documents from the CRA servers so you don’t find the T4s or have to fill in the numbers yourself.

Who gives a f*ck about the crtc jurisdiction? Take it out to the barn and put a bullet it. Crtc doesn't serve the publics interest. Every single one of your points are complete non sense and could be answered without bill c11.

Since C11 will broaden the CRTC's power over the internet, it may allow them to fine or pressure online video streaming services to provide descriptive audio more so than they currently do. Usually, the debate around C11 is framed in the context of the CRTC mandating a percentage of Canadian content as they do with domestic TV and radio right now. The bill would give them the power to do both of those things, which is why there is so much debate about it.

Unfortunately, unemployment for persons who are legally blind is staggeringly high in Canada and few seem to want to do anything about it to change that. It's an ever worsening problem in Canada. Most employers don't want to take risks hiring someone with a visual impairment because they fear those people may make mistakes on the job that could cause financial loss to the business / company. Instead of making the workplace more accessible for persons with visual impairments, most employers choose to not hire these people. Most are also not willing to upgrade the workplace to make those jobs more accessible. Either they say it's too costly or send the person on their way with the age old response, "We have more interviews ahead,, but if the position isn't filled we'll get in touch." type of response which is basically their polite non-prejudice way of saying "You can't see good enough for us so we're not going to hire you." Even if the person is qualified to do the job, the chances of getting that job are far less than a person with no impairments.
