Sir, can you explain how to display lights & text increase
@Martin-iw1ll Жыл бұрын
For the undrained case, shouldnt the vertical effective stress remain constant as the increase in vertical total stress is transfered to increase in pore water pressure, at least in 5he short term before consolidation occurs. Therefore the horizontal effective stresss should remain constant as well according to the k_0 equation. In undrained loading, isnt the shear strength of the material is determined by S_u instead which is a horizontal line in the total stress versus shear stress space

If soil is fully saturated having,hydraulic conductivity is 1× 10^-7 m/s, what will be the specific gravity, water content and void ratio????

you explained it pretty well sir. I don't understand why no book uses simple ways to make us understand. I guess they all are published for Doctorate degrees!

Great explanation of vital but usually impenetrable subject matter.. I like the music by the way, it provides rhythm and tempo to the presentation. Please leave it in.

Sir I have a question what if the second layer is clay is it a must to always follow the condition which is use the half of it's heights as a multiplier to get the effective stress and for total stress?

In 3:44, how come that the Delta h = 0.33m? Please ellaborate.
@MK-wo6rf3 жыл бұрын
Same with the L1, where does 0.9 came from?
@chrisleach91892 жыл бұрын
At 4.58 he mentions that difference in total head = 4m, therefore 4m/12 head drops = 0.33m per head drop (Delta h).

Some people fill the foundations with water after digging and leave it for a few days. They claim that now the soil is automatically compacted. Have you studied/experienced it?
@declanphillips75453 жыл бұрын
This is not a common practice and I would exercise caution if considering it as a compaction option. The technique would court failure if the underlying soils are fine grained i.e. silts and clays and therefore should NOT be adopted under any circumstances. The technique has been used to densify coarse grained soils (sands and gravels) as the downward flow of water creates a 'frictional drag' on the soil particles it passes thus 'dragging' them into a denser configuration and reducing the void spaces in the process (See video on water flow in soils kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4KtnKR8mr6Yh6s ). Reaching a specified relative density would be challenging with this technique. In my opinion ... best to stick with tried and tested procedures for densifying soil.
