Mr. Pierson was my Vocal Teacher in my Junior and Senior Years of college. I greatly appreciate every lesson and moment with this amazing Teacher. God bless you for posting this. Forever Grateful in Jesus Name🙏🛐✝️💐🌄🕊️

"I just opened my mouth and sang...and hoped." What a charming interview with the charming and modest Edward Pierson! Modesty is so becoming to a great soul. I am so proud that New York City Opera, the company where I worked for 30 years as a chorister and soloist, always embraced minority artists. I think, perhaps, because it was founded by a bunch of Viennese Jews and maybe they knew a little bit about the evils of prejudice. As a result City Opera had the benefit of some of the greatest Black artists available. Black singers had a home at City Opera long before Marion Anderson was invited to the Metropolitan. I would love to list all the Black artists that had a home with us, but it would be too long and I might forget somebody.

I was a student of Edward Pierson in 1960, and sang in the R.S ABBOTT ACCAPELLA Choir, his voice was memorable and he taught us so much about music and voice and determination as well as the discipline of being a an proud African American. He recently crossed my mind and am thrilled to find your interview.
