One of my trucks came with a GV and it works great. I wanted to convert that truck from a C6 to an factory OD and not need the GV on that one, then use it on another truck because the other truck really needed an OD. They wanted something like $500 for an adapter. The other thing about GV is that I hear they don't sell parts to fix the OD unit... They want you to send it in. This is complete BS. I love the idea of the the GV OD/Splitter, but damn that's expensive and they don't seem to work with people that already have a unit. $100 for a switch is a joke.

Good info on the torque, I was going too high on the upper and had binding. I also didn't remove the sleeve at the top to clean it up as it was a field repair. I thought I may have gotten a bad joint. Once I limped back to the shop I pulled it apart, cleaned up the upper sleeve and torqued properly. A few love taps on the upper axle ear relieved stresses in the sleeve and she's smooth as butter. 30 on bottom, 70 top, then 150 on bottom!

I have a GV unit in my 85 Ford F250 C6 trans and I love the unit but hate the electronics. It will turn on and off whenever... usually going 60 mph and slam. I hot wired the solenoid and by passed the speedo setup that has it only working above 30 mph. I turn it on above 35 when its in top gear and turn it off when I leave the highway.

I think part of my poor opinion comes from the unit i had being so badly abused when I got it. When i went to take it off the truck the main shaft inside just fell out. But i agree the electrical side could definitely use re-engineering.

Could you possibly tell me everything I would need to complete this job? I assume just an output shaft and 4x4 tail housing?
@getheated
@getheated 3 ай бұрын
Yes the only real difference between the rwd and the 4x4 is the output shaft and tail housing. While you are in there inspect it real close for worn or damaged parts/bearings/gears. Now will be the best time to service it. My synchros were all hosed and the 2nd gear one had its teeth mostly sawed off. Those, one gear and pretty much all the bearings and its good for another 200k to 300k miles.

Can you tell me if after a certain year that the 2wd tailhousings were the same for dodge and gm?
@getheated
@getheated 2 ай бұрын
@Lifeline13216 to my knowledge the tail housing share the same bolt pattern but GM had a different output shaft and yoke. I believe GM had a harmonic balancer on the yoke. Is there a certain type of hybrid you are wanting to build?

I'm looking for a dodge diesel nv4500 2wd tailhousing. I can drive 5 hours to get one or pay an out of this world price for one lol but I think I may of found one. Thank you for responding back. The one I sent the question about I'm thinking is for a gasser it has the indention at the yoke end. Or it's gm idk.

@Lifeline13216 no problem at all! I will also offer something else to look out for. The 2001+ model tail housings often did NOT have a hole for the speedometer gear/sensor as they started using a different method of monitoring speed. Everything else matches up though.

Found a compression tester under the seat of a 5.9 ram I bought, 80-90 psi across all 8. Ran it like that the last year and a half. Hauled close to 40k total behind it since I bought it. It just gave up a few weeks ago. It's still got some life left.
@getheated
@getheated 5 ай бұрын
@steventhompson3781 yeah i picked up another 5.9 probably in roughly the same shape. Im going to rebuild it slowly and keep running this engine for now. The transmission however… its on its last leg so im going to stuff a 5 speed in it soon.
