Thanks for your video - I enjoyed it very much! I was only there once, on a temporary duty assignment with the USA space program (Pan Am contractor engineer to the USAF - communications systems) in 1977. Got to use a military Jeep over a weekend to tour most of the island, including Dampier's Drip (I think it was called) in the midst of the bamboo forest at the top of Green Mountain, and most points in-between. It seems to have changed a lot in the intervening 22 years - and now it's 24 more years later! A fascinating place!

Great video. We were airborne in a Hawk doing circuits as Concorde was taxing. We were told to hold off to allow Concorde not to miss it's Oceanic clearance. As she lifted off we turned in behind her and had the most glorious viewpoint :-) We followed for a bit, keeping a safe distance, but just dumbstruck at the amazing sight. A memory etched in my mind.

Thank you. Quite comprehensive. I especially love that green mountain. Surprisingly, there don't seem to be many vids of it.

I do realize that you have posted this 5 years ago and this was actually recorded back in 1999. Do you know if a lot things has changed since then?

I have no idea, I have moved from the area now, sorry!

@@FOY264 That's ok. The reason I asked was because I have a job lined up there soon and hopefully I'll be medically cleared. So, I'm getting everything ready to go.

I think it was a special trip to America and, of course, who wouldn't want to fly from beautiful Boscombe!

It was arranged by the owner of Bath Travel at the time. A short trip from Heathrow to Boscombe Down, of which I was a passenger. It then refuelled and loaded new passengers for the trip to New York. I took a video of the trip, but quality not good, as taken on a pre digital camera, but hope to upload soon. The most amazing day being close up to Concorde and actually flying into Boscombe Down.

My father worked there in the 1950s on the missle tracking station. I have some of his Kodachrome slides. Thanks for letting me see more of the island.

.This was not the first Concorde flight out of Wiltshire. There were several back in1986 of which I was on one flight in G-BOAD from "D" Sqdn apron on 1 December 1986. On board was the Commandant and the Supt of Flying and several other lesser Boscombe Down mortals.

truly Victorian in the fact most indigenous species have been replaced by hoofed animals. eliminating the possibility of cultivating the island therefore leaving the people there dependent on mainland support
