What an interesting project. I especially like the "plot twist" when the map shows where (I'm guessing) the scenes where drawn.
@FANzineLiveGuyКүн бұрын
Oh yeah, this was fascinating from top to bottom. The great looking zine made with different techniques. The map. The unique webpage that looked more like something out of the TV show "Lost". And then to have the zine make it all the way to Toronto! Talk about dumb luck.

You're a step ahead of me with The Comics Blogger! I'm planning a video on that in the next month or so. Past those two...??? You're on the list to get Tetragrammaton Fragments from the United Fanzine Organization, and that's a good source of info while not a "newszine" as much as a club newsletter with reviews and other random goodness. I'm at a loss for anything else. Can you see why I decided to start this little FANzine Live thing? ;-)

It's wonderful to see some of these classic zines that don't deserve to be lost to obscurity or some university collection. Photocopy machines could be bad in the 90s, as well! You were really at the mercy of what was available back then.

that page one logo is pretty darn cool. seems like ALL zines from the times have that it's-meant-to-be-black printing. was a kind of shrug-yr-shoulders way things seemed meant to be. you sure do pick interesting choices.
@FANzineLiveGuy28 күн бұрын
That logo was cool, wasn't it? On the blacks, I only made a deal out of it because this was really the first time since I started doing Classic Zine videos where it was REALLY obvious that the photocopier couldn't keep up with the artist. And that's worth pointing out, especially if a younger viewer doesn't realize the technological limitations we worked under (at the same time, WE HAD CHEAP PHOTOCOPIES! Democratization of technology!). And yeah, I do like keeping the mix fresh. Most all of these classic zines, I haven't read in 40 years! So it's just grab an interesting looking one and go for it!

Glad to help! Don't give up...if you're having trouble with story ideas, start from within. Tell the stories you know. IF you don't want to be autobiographical, use the stories you know as springboards to something else. That's how I wrote Heroes Now: Patriot...as a reflection on having lived through the end of the Cold War, on how the world around us has changed. Check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJ2TnJ-tr8lpoKs Everyone has stories to tell! Just try telling one or two of them. :-)

Excellent, thank you for sharing! Any tips on selecting zines (aside from personal taste) from the tons there are to choose from?
@FANzineLiveGuy2 ай бұрын
Great question! I think that personal taste is the ultimate arbiter, but you can also look at elements like the price, the production values and the connection you may form with the creator. There might be other considerations...anyone else have ideas? Regardless, the volumes of zines out in the world require a certain amount of patience to wander through in order to get that proverbial diamond in the rough...especially when you purchase at a show like an SPX or a CXC. Take your time, be deliberate with your wallet...and have fun with the experience!

ah, Jonny Quest for me, too. Strongly recommend two from this year, but 'back-issues' or collected (I hope) by now, newly re-read: Batman/Dylan Dog, the best portrayal of Batman for me in years and at today's prices, a LOT of pages for a low price. Traveling to Mars constantly surprised me: a (very) laid-back travelogue filled with philosophical pondering, at least two very surprising moments--warding off a would-be spaceship war, finding out (logically) who actually populates Mars.
