The very first time someone recommended this band to me, he showed me the video "De Wolff live | Rockpalast | 2010" here on KZbin. Luckily, the video was re-uploaded a few years ago. They were still kids back then... But they changed their style over the years, and that's a very nice story. You picked out a lot of nice details! I’ve only had a chance to listen to it all the way through it three times, but it is an incredible work. The previous album never really captured my interest until only recently. This one is really exciting, and yes, it’s a rush to hear those growls again. I think it’s Section 7 that is my favourite so far. It surprised me to hear a quick hand-clap bit, and some of the riffing later on is really a treat. When I heard she was doing metal and heard her screamo vocals, I wondered how seriously I should be taking her. But five albums now? And she’s on Sumerian along with Kittie. Listening on spotify is not the mode I would recommend you use if you are going to review an album. Even with my below average equipment Spotify always sounds inferior on many different albums of various genres. If you had it ripped into a media player or played the album on your own stereo you could eq it to your personal ear. I believe there is an app to add an equalizer to spotify but I only use Spotify to sample records or songs. I am sure if you buy the album and eq it yourself it will be much more enjoyable, The live version of these songs is much better and you get to see Reeves Gabrels do his thing...much better than the album!💀🎧
@ThatAlbumReviewShow2 ай бұрын
I think the problem is that I went in expecting to hear Reeves like from the Bowie albums and Tin Machine. I’ve heard lots of music on Spotify and was never really bothered by the sound quality. My home stereo is much better of course.

Actually the sculpture on the cover is from 1975 by a slovenian artist , Janez Prinat. Robert Smith found it in a book that was in his personal library, offered few years before by family member. When he saw that one in the book, he wanted it as cover artwork so started to research about the creator to ask for the copyright and stuff. He found out that that guy passed.... the exact same day he was trying to reach him... He finally got in touch with his widow who allowed him to use the image and even better : offered him the artwork

The mix sounds completely different depending on which cd or record you buy. There are basically two versions with diferent masterings. I own the white and marbled vinyl. The last one sounds a bit muddy and thick while the white vinyl (mastered by Miles) sounds more airy. Personally I prefer the Miles version of the album. It took me a couple of more listens too to get into the record, but I love it now. I’ll definately think you will prefer (and love) Disintegration, which is more diverse and is basically their masterpiece. If you are more into an alternative rock sound you have to go for Wish next.

AI-generated image of a Robert Smith-like character (0:17) for your thumbnail and video - brilliant. Much like the Bagatelle sculpture, it's a a good metaphor for reviewers who have thoughts, but don't think - or maybe the reviewer used the image just because it looked cool. I'm new to this band. It was recommended on another forum. I listened through once but had to bail out near the end because my ears eventually tired of all the overt 'audio sweetening' and by that I mean auto-tuning/quantizing etc - you know, when producers can't leave well enough alone. This album is absolutely overflowing with great ideas and great performances but do they really need all that post-processing to give them that awful contemporary pop sound? I'm a pro-musician and long-time 'progressive' devotee so I love what these guys are trying to do. Can I just hear a raw version of the album - I think I'd be in heaven.

I am a big fan of Floyd and Gilmour but I really think he should push his boundaries more and explore more. Step outside his comfort zone. His music has become 'comfortably numbing’. Luck & Strange is a really lovely laid back track with great Gilmore guitar, but it's just more of the same, almost formulaic. If someone told me it was created by AI I wouldn't be surprised. My advice, for what it's worth as a fan (and experimental musician), do what Bowie did, find musicians that push you in new directions. I live in Crouch End, Floyd used to play at the Hornsey College of Art here, a college of amazing creative people (I went there well over a decade after), then they were cutting edge, experimental, they pushed the boundaries. I would love to hear what Gilmour would create if he went back to that original mindset. Another thought David, how about playing a secret gig there (its now a school but the main hall is still there).
