I live in southeast ky in zone 2 and I'd like to take a bear during archery or rifle season. Currently deer hunting and I have a 350-400lb black bear eating my feed archery season is in October but you can't bait I'm wondering if it's a legal take if I travel the bears path up the mountain and post up in a tree stand far away from my feed? I'm pretty new to hunting in general but a black bear is definitely on my list!

I smoked a buck with 100 grains t7 FFG deer went 40 yards with a 120 yard double lung shot. I was using the .44. The only thing I don't like about them is getting the second sabot down past crud ring is hard with the .44. The .452 version load much easier for me. I'm switching to harvester sabots and 240gr Speer gold dots this year.

Excellent, serious video for tactics and planning. Spare me the rock music, personality plus, and camera effects. This is a guy with real experience giving useful advice. Have to wonder what he does besides hunt bears! He could be a great cop/investigator or coach/trainer.

@jayder1985 im in the NRV... got sign of a real big one on some private I hunt in Christiansburg but it's so darn thick I don't think I could see him, it's literally 8 or 10 foot high 20 year.old clear cuts mostly, he's been in there tearing down all the autumn olives, some bush with red berries and the pokeberries, 2 piles of scat size of dinner plate about a week apart in the same spot... was a 400+ pounder out there a decade or so ago... will probably take a day and creep around national forest above Blacksburg and try to find one!

A lot of this information seems to be region specific. Much of this was generally good advice, but I'd disagree on the amount of noise they make. Of all the bears i've shot, i've only ever heard one before i saw it (almost always inside of 50yd), and he was woofing. Most of your advice was pretty solid, though.

Wait, you mean to tell me people can still hunt animals. All I ever see is baiting, hunting animals on fenced-in land a lot of land but fenced-in and still bait. I have never purposely baited an animal. I have had a bear come in on my smokehouse. other than that I have never baited or needed to bait any animal. I was born/raised in Alaska dad taught us to read the land track the animal we want go out and learn it and hunt it. I promise every hunting channel you see on KZbin or 99% of them are hunting fenced animals with bait. These hunting lodges in the lower 48 are all stocked land. That means they breed or purchase the animals you hunt and they are forced to stay on that property, you are shooting an animal in a cage just a large cage. I have learn not all but most so-called hunters could not harvest an animal if you just put them out in the forest they would have a hard time even finding them. Especially herd animals that grass and move long distances. My bad I'm venting again.

You must live in a very small world if your convinced every KZbin hunter baits or hunts high fence. Tons of dudes out here strictly hunting public land and crushing it.

Bud the reason a Bear might not be as worried about the sounds you make as opposed to the deer is. Deer are PREY Bears are PREDATORS. LOL. Cmon bro "maybe we can do more research" had me rolling.
@JoshuaTree-dq8cj18 күн бұрын
Black bears have predators in any range they share with grizzlies or humans. These pressures have been on them for thousands of years now. I wouldn't be suprised if it more that they are less aware of sounds than deer than they are such badasses they don't care about their own survival.

Typical new gun blues. That is not cool about the welded on rail, though. Seems like maybe you should trade it for a standard version of the 301 (doesn't have the welded-on rail).

Hey man I got trail cameras in some draws where there is literally deer bones, bear tracks and scat. I see very little activity and no predictability only two small bears in the course of 3 weeks. How can I improve what I'm doing? My season is only 4 weeks in September so I don't have a lot of time. I read on google that bears move 300 miles a month!
