In my earlier years I played in a band and one of the things I did was dance the Charleston. I absolutely loved this music and alot of people enjoyed me dancing, it took alot of energy out of me. Thanks for this video. (CA)

Drunken evenings in the squadron bar were not complete without a " sod's opera " rendition of this song , the words we sing were slightly different, .....I think our version was much better , but not everyone has our sense of humour, and it would not be broadcastable, we have the occasional reunion to see who has died, get drunk , talk of the past , and sing our version of this lovely song 😊😊😊😊

Beautiful song Our lads of the 8th army came to adore a beautiful German voice of Lale Andersen that came drifting through their radios speakers in the evenings , huddled together surrounded by the dead , this hypnotic melody lit up the inky black desert nights , by late 1942 Rommels Africa Corps who had long ago fallen in love with this beautiful soldier’s song would sit opposite the boys of London’s old Brigades in their deep dugouts listening to this haunting melody ,, soon to became an anthem of life & death up the line in North African , the song would later be made famous by Vera Lynn from the Uk & Marlene Dietrich who later in the war was entertaining the US army overseas having fled Hitlers Germany in the 30s , remember the desert rats , the boys of London’s old volunteer Brigades,
