-Haha. I figured as rusty as they are, the fonts would leak like a sieve. Gas tank sealer works on leaky lantern fonts. -You could do with about 1/4 as much wick in that last one. -Citronella oil in lanterns is fine outside, but if you switch back to regular oil or kero to bring them inside, you should install a new wick, Otherwise the citronella smell will follow you. -The smoking from the top is unnecessary, it carbons up your wick and will soot up your glass globes. Your flame is too high. It's the citronella SMELL and not smoke that keeps the mosquitos away. -Also, you may be getting smoke from the lantern tops because you didn't clean the spider webs out and they are probably burning off. -Kerosene and lamp oil are safe to burn indoors. -Heck, take a wire brush and steel wool to them, a little high heat spray paint, and good as new.

I didn’t prep it a lot, just some metal chain into the tank…knocked the shit around….then rinsed a few times with isopropyl. Dried the hell out of the tanks, then poured the POR in. I think you could try that. Tape all the way round so the POR don’t leak out. Then coat it all the way and don’t touch it for 4-5 days while it sets up. @@UnhingedHarry Thanks. Actually, I bought one yesterday from Small Engines here in Townsville for $18.35 that also includes the throttle control. The control is different from the original, but I got it to fit, and so it should work similarly once connected. What I'm still short on, unfortunately, are two tiny and flimsy coil springs that attach to the moving parts at the mower end of the cable. This is frustrating since, if ordered, they will take at least a couple of weeks to arrive. We've recently had a lot of rain here in Townsville and the grass and shrubbery seems to get longer by inches as each day passes.

The lantern can have a "runaway" with improper fuel, citronella is one of those fuels that works in the lantern but it can have a runaway if you don't adjust the flame height correctly
@UnhingedHarry
@UnhingedHarry Жыл бұрын
That's good to know. A long time ago I made a crude oil heater / burner.. I ended up with a positive feedback loop by having some of the heat on the oil tube.. it made it thinner, so it delivered more oil, got hotter, more oil.. etc etc... The citronella may be a similar thing but with a wick instead of a tube.

@UnhingedHarry

@@kaittemurry4740 i this case I think it's when the heat from the flame makes the fuel thinner, so more is wicked up into the flame, so it gets hotter, thinner, more up the wick.. etc.. until you end up with a giant flame and eventually possibly something bad happening. It's a form of positive feedback loop.

There's a solid reinforcing washer that goes on the back of the blade deck. You can see that it has fallen off during disassembly and just sitting loose on top side of the deck. The camera picks it up at 9:57 on the video. Don't forget that a curved spring wave washer is also required between the blade and the deck and the nut needs to be tightened just enough to let the blade swing. Never work on the underside of a mower without first disconnecting the sparkplug lead.
@UnhingedHarry
@UnhingedHarry Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. You have good eyes picking that up. Yep, I make sure the blades can rotate a bit but probably didn't mention it. Another person reminded me to take the ignition lead off which is good advice which I do now. It's a low chance of starting, but potentially a big problem if it does. And simple to prevent it.

I like that idea @@UnhingedHarry . On a different note, speaking of book shelves. This past year I started collecting all the real wood home made bookshelves people put out for trash. Most of them were built with care and used in a garage or basement. Many of them are made from a better cut of wood than we get today. I can't recall where I saw it but years back a guy was mortising for hinges on a home made plywood jig. He would use a router guide collar.
