John Crandall occupies a place in Colorado Springs (and on the planet) that reflects his gentle but fervent drive to make his city (and the planet) a better place. It’s not just whimsy that he has a giant inflatable Earth hanging from the ceiling. (I was so jazzed when I visited the shop after he put up a solar installation.) I was in his employ during the ‘80’s, I retain the utmost respect for his genuine person; he ‘talks the talk,’ and he ‘walks the walk,’ ever so humbly. His mentoring and tutelage is of the highest rigor, yet is delivered to his staff in a kind and accessible manner. It’s no wonder some in his employ have been there for decades. Since moving away, I’ve only rarely shared a bench with fellow mechanics with as deep an understanding of tools, metallurgy, process, and thoroughness such as John promotes at his shop. This interview is quite long-viewers may well get lost to its sheer length. I remember many of the incidents and anecdotes John relates here; e.g. Eddy Merckx drank out of my coffee cup, and he was unfazed that a woman mechanic was helping to face his team bike’s bottom bracket shells for the World Championships…for that I give John part of the credit for his confidence in me, his complete lack of bias. For a much shorter but telling taste of what Old Town Bike Shop is, viewers would do well to just stop by. Ask John about his lending library. Look at the big blue ball hanging above. Peer at the solar output meter by the back door. Read the story about the orange Crescent bicycle hanging from the ceiling; see if there’s a shop dog lounging somewhere. Better yet, let Old Town tend to your cycle, or ask them to answer some question you have about bikes, or the community in general.

Major Kudos for JerseyMike and your support for us at the #triplebypass, we would not have completed it if it were not for Mike being there providing us a Van to warm us up after rainy descents and recover from pellet size hail off Loveland pass. Then driving us back to the start to pickup our cars and bringing others home back Colorado Springs. Don’t think other Hotels/Lodges would have provided that level of support at no cost. Thank you Torie, Jersey Mike and The #BuffaloTribe. Buffalo Love Velo = #BuffaLoVelo

Hello Wilfredo Brian was riding his bicycle in Colorado Springs and lost control on gravel and crashed and died at the scene. He was riding with a friend who responded immediately and called 911 but he never had consciousness. He was dearly loved by many in our community and is very missed.

Thank you so much for putting this video together. Brian...you will never be forgotten. You were an amazing friend. In this beautiful crazy life most of us are blessed with the opportunity to meet only a few kindred souls with whom a spontaneous, natural bond arises in an instant...a relationship in which the doors, hearts, and minds are always open, there is never a perceived reason or motivation to deceive, impress, or conform. In this type of pure unfiltered exchange every single interaction produces a lot of laughter, deep conversation that inspires you to be your best self, a full unhindered expression of all that you are...and when a cathartic release is needed, it happens without much effort. In this type of relationship the other person is viewed as an extension of self, money is no object and you want only the very best for them. Brian I am so grateful to have experienced this type of relationship with you. I won't mix words or confuse the issue...Brian...your life was a great blessing to this world, and your death is a great loss. You will be missed and you will never be forgotten. I'm happy you died doing what you loved. Thank you for reminding us that we never know how or when we will go...that every moment is a beautiful gift...that we should take every opportunity to enjoy this present moment, and express our love to those in our life. ❤️🔅🌀♾️🌀🔅❤️

a two month postponement and now a last minute course change that doesn't really go anywhere. Really ? two trips up Rampart Range just to turn around and come down same road. That better be one heck of an after-party. Hopefully we still get a t-shirt. Haha P.s. was really looking forward to Mount Herman.
