I played pugo, and managed to do pretty well with the proxy wars. By the end, most of Asia flew the red banner, and a reinvigorated socialism through ogas and cybernetics marched onwards to free the world.... Then the last event finally fired: "the USSR has reclaimed it's position to the global stage, with Lenin leading the way - thank you for playing red flood". I remembered that "goodbye forever" was written for us, the earth that had it's progress reversed back a century. Pugo's earth was so close, so possible even in 1991, that it fills me with immense sadness.
