I went to see 'Cliff Richard and my Shadows' at the Dunedin NZ Town Hall on 27th October 1961. Quite frankly, Hank Marvin stole the show. Hard to believe what he could ( or couldn't ) do with a guitar! Pity that clips like this have him pulling funny expressions while playing…really unnecessary!

My late parents had a on old reel to reel tape player and that was how we heard music. Dad worked at Decca and got a lot of tapes cheaply so we had shadows right from my birth in the 50's. As soo as I was old enough mum got me guitar lessons and later played in a 'Shadows' type band. Hank was my idol - still is. Cant believe at ONE of their 'last ever tours' we were sat in the front row and I spoke with him - that made my year. He makes a guitar sing like an angel.

Have to admit, this is one of my favourite clips.. Thank God it's preserved on film for perpetuity..
