Mago is a wizard in Spanish, and is also a goddess in Korean epic - the patroness of women. 22:06 6960 is the NGC 6960 nebula, which has its own name - the Witch's Broom. 24:53 these movements of the hands above the head are the casting of a spell (magical gestures). 23:15 - There was no visual or center position in GFriend. They are all visuals and centers at the same time. They are also all vocalists and dancers. They were called the Queens of Synchronization because they moved as one person (as one whole). No other group came close to them in this component. In order of seniority: Sowon 16:53 - leader (tallest, 173 cm) Yerin 17:24 - lead dancer (strongest, 167 cm) Eunha 17:07 18:42 (wig) - lead vocal (smallest, 163 cm) Yuju 18:27 - main vocal (multi-talented, 170 cm) SinB 19:14 - main dancer (savage, 167 cm) Umji 18:59 - maknae (cute, 165 cm) 18:38 from right to left: SinB, Yerin, Umji, Sowon, Yuju, Eunha GFriend - didn't disband, they just left a bad agency. They are all still together. You can find videos on KZbin where they all dance Maniac together, for example (including at the first concert of the VIVIZ tour) or other comebacks of other participants.

Their company terminated their contracts 6 months early and lied to the media saying that they had expired and GFriend left by mutual agreement. Fans were only given 4 days notice of the disbandment and GFriend were not allowed to speak to the media or fans afterwards about the breakup due to non disclosure agreements they were forced to sign. The music video for their comeback had already been filmed and the next album about to be launched. It was so sudden and abrupt everyone who knew about them was shocked. The company then tried to copyright their name in over 70 copyright clauses which prevented them from continuing as GFriend in another company. They failed in their bid but reapplied a few months later so determined were they to eradicate GFriend from Kpop. But they failed again so GFriend could reform in the future and every member says they want to do this. That is why we have VIVIZ now as the other 3 members had already signed up with different companies leaving just the 3 VIVIZ members without a company. So they decided to join a brand new company set up just a few weeks earlier to make a fresh start. The NDA must now have expired as members have now started to talk about how cruel their disbandment was and how they refuse to accept that definition saying that they will return as they are all close friends still. They are having a hiatus only and are NOT disbanded as Sowon has repeatedly said publicly on chat shows. The reason why the company acted as it did has remained a mystery and even now the GFriend members feel unable to tell us why, probably because they risk getting sued for defamation by Hybe and Source Music which both companies are very fond of doing as can be seen by the latest scandal involving them. But the most likely reason in my opinion is that they were finding it hard financially to prepare and train the new girl group Lesserafim during Covid when their income collapsed without any GFriend performancs at festivals and concert tours for two years and they relied heavily on loans from Hybe to continue. So they got rid of GFriend as being too old despite Mago being so successful globally with 90 million views which is way more than most other girl groups get who continue with their careers supported by their companies. But for the very abrupt ending to have taken place, something significant happened behind the scenes that I doubt we will ever know about. There has been zero interaction between GFriend members and the group that replaced them since the breakup which suggests that there is still bad feelings by GFriend towards them seeing as they are very supportive of New Jeans by contrast, with SinB in particular always recommending their songs as ones she likes and others like Yuju and Umji singing covers of their songs. The mystery will remain forever I suspect of what really happened.

You will find watching a guide to them really helpful in getting to know more about them. The best two guides by far are a subpar guide to GFriend and a Guide to GFriend 2020. They give a lot of information but are still very entertaining and you will get to see a lot more about the VIVIZ members who make up half of GFriend. You did well with guessing their positions during Mago as Yuju, SinB and Umji were all spot on at your first attempt. Main vocal (one of the best vocalists of the 3rd generation), main dancer (actually the person who helped launch Artist of the Month on Studio Choom as she was chosen to be the first to have that honour) and maknae respectively. Eunha is the oldest in VIVIZ but behaves like a fake maknae as she is just naturally cute without ever trying. Umji is very sensible and mature despite being always the youngest.

I really enjoyed listening to VIVIZ B sides again as they are so varied and with no skips for me. Overflow is an experimental song and has a complexity I only noticed after repeated listens to it when I kept noticing things I missed first time around. They are now on their world tour performing all these B sides and most have great choreography created specifically for the concert. So now you can enjoy all their songs visually as well as just listening to them. Day by Day has special clip released as a Xmas gift for fans and is really enjoyable to watch.

Yeah, listening to Gfriend's "Me Gustas Tu" reminds us about the youthful days when the world is filled with wonder and excitement waiting for our pending exploration. Gfriend has amazing vocal and impressive choreo with a sound featuring orchestra instruments, particularly the strings. How I miss Gfriend, both their music and personalities in those bygone days. "Me Gustas Tu" was Gfriend's first comeback. And the girls sure grew up a lot when "Mago" came around. Sadly they left with such a banger. Gfriend's interrupted journey is a tragedy. Yet it is what brought us Viviz as other three girls continue their career solo. Thanks for the reaction.

Dreamcatcher is basically their own genre lol like there’s just NOT other kpop groups who made rock/metal influence a core part of their identity. And for a long time, that made Dreamcatcher a black sheep in the industry-they hold the record for girl group that took the longest to achieve their first music show win, i believe. But they’ve stayed strong and had a random and company has always believed in them, and we have so much amazing music as a result! Siyeon is one of the best vocalists in kpop, period. She’s a true vocal chameleon and can literally blow out a mic without trying 😂 that’s the magic of Dreamcatcher: literally any of the members could probably be a main vocalist, dancer, or rapper in another group. So you know the ones who actually hold those positions IN Dreamcatcher are on another level. Bon Voyage is the ending of a trilogy about environmentalism. So it’s kind of a breakup song for the Earth: recognizing that we’re hurting our home and the only way for it to heal might be for us to leave. So we ask the Earth to wish us Bon Voyage-a good journey, until we reunite.

You won’t find another group like this in kpop :) They’ve literally been named the “face of rock” in the industry and were the first kpop group ever invited to Primavera Sound Festival! And yes, they’re going seven years strong-they actually had just renewed their contracts (a year early) a few months before Bon Voyage was released! I like that you went back to read the lyrics because you picked up on something important, which is that the words are about the song and what it represents for their place in the kpop industry-they don’t want to follow trends; they’re going to do something bold and exciting and not be sorry for it. They’re not going to chase after anyone for approval, either-if you like them, you’ll be the one chasing them.

I know I'm a bit late but here is it anyway... A key piece of information: They're not ghosts. They are nightmares. Hence them singing about invading dreams and then escaping into another dream to get away. They are literally taunting him, daring him to chase them. They're just basically messing with his head throughout this whole video. Like when they pull the eyes out of the teddy bear, then his eyes are gone, then he wakes up and his eyes are still there. This is part one (well, technically part two) of a whole backstory that unfolds throughout their first 6 releases called The Nightmare Series. "Why do you try to put me in that frame" is directly related to the previous lyric about "What is a good kid?", as in "why are you trying to force me to be good when I'm not?" and later "This is the way I am".

Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher and thanks for taking the time to read the lyrics and try to understand them. Chase Me is the first part of the Nightmare series, of which there are 7 parts. This is the songs in order. Chase Me Good Night Fly High - This is a prequel to Chase Me You & I What Piri Breaking Out - The final song in the Nightmare series. My interpretation of the lyrics in Chase Me is that they're rebelling against the perceived ideal of what a Girl Group is supposed to be. They're pushing back against the societal standards that tell them they should behave, look, or act a certain way. They're also saying "Chase Me" because once you hear us you won't be able to let us go, but you'll never be able to catch us because we'll keep surprising you. They have a lot of songs that fit under that umbrella of "staying true to oneself" even when you're facing opposition. That's something they're very familiar with since they faced a lot of industry criticism due to their sound and concept in the years after their release.

dreamcatcher \:D/ you picked the wrong group to try to interpret lyrics in isolation lol. as others mentioned it's part of a themed trilogy so if you had some context it would help. if you just look at the lyrics without the context of the trilogy, you can say the song is about leaving someone on good terms. in the context of the apocalypse trilogy, it's about them waiting for a right day to leave when we can take care of ourselves without their help.
@CsLaci81

To properly interpret this song, you also need some background. In short: Bonvoyage is the last installment of the Apocalypse trilogy and is basically a love letter to mother earth while the song is based around the concept of passive ecological restoration. But as this is a DreamCatcher song, the message and the lyrics can also be applied to a generic relationship where you love the other one but you still hurt him/her and you must forcibly distance yourself a little to let the other one heal. The Apocalypse Trilogy discusses how Humanity is destroying the planet. Maison, Vision and Bonvoyage are the three title tracks in order. Maison is about destroying nature, global warming, pollution. Vision is a call to arms to start acting, also about wars while Bonvoyage is to let the earth heal on its own. In Maison Dreamcatcher arrives to the planet as some stronger external force (goddesses, heroines) to make humanity listen and also to fight for us but now they are leaving, to let us heal on our own. Also marks the beginning of a new era (while DreamCatcher announced their contract renewal and also started a new storyline) hence the tarot card 6 of Swords that represents gradually leaving behind a complicated past. Most images of Dreamcatcher videos should be interpreted as being symbolic, like the horse - butterfly as nature (while butterfly also for change - rebirth, similar to the blooming flower) , the dove that is protected is freedom etc. This departure is also contradictory as you are leaving behind something you love, but you must do. Hence the line at 20:07 "is it a mischief of distorted fate" while the image is basically split into two, the upside is reality, the downside is the celebrated dream you are hoping for. Anyway I hope this helps putting this song and M/V into context and it does help a little if you see Maison and Vision first, although it is still abstract at parts.
@ivyshy98
@ivyshy98 Ай бұрын
dreamcatcher \:D/ you should separate the visual plot from the lyrics because it's not a direct correlation. the visual plot is part of a 6 part nightmare series. the lyrics convey the theme of the nightmare series - be yourself even if everyone else tells you otherwise. so in a sense, the nightmare is living a life where you aren't yourself but just what everyone else expects you to be. the nightmare series is a reflection of themselves because they are breaking away from the kpop mold and making the music they want even if it's not popular and rock is definitely not popular in korea. dreamcatcher is actually a second chance for 5 of the 7 members who originally did the stereotypical girl group kpop thing which didn't work out in part because they are from a small company with limited resources to promote themselves. with their second chance to 'catch' their 'dreams' as singers, they would make music their way so expect songs that are very different from what you typically hear in kpop.

"Bon Voyage" is the 3rd and final part of the Apocalypse trilogy, which is about the destruction of the environment by humanity. The members have mentioned that it is about giving nature a break. Any encounter between human beings always has separation attached to it as well, just as death is a part of life. SuA also said that the fluffy floating thing that Dami summons from her painting is a cell, representing nature. It has been named "Celly" and is adorable, right? My dark mind believes that they are saying "Have a good trip" to humanity, since we are well on our way of wiping ourselves out. It's like a breakup between humanity and the earth. Once humanity is gone, nature gets the break it needs and the circle will begin again. For me, the key to understanding the lyrics is that they are singing as human beings, not as a single person. And they are singing to nature, confessing their love and the realization that we are not good for nature and that it probably resents us. It could also be the other way round (them singing as mother nature to humanity). SuA jumping out after the dove seem to represent their desire for peace. There are still many things I don't know. For example, why are all three titles in French. 😉 (And why are there 3 Damis with 7 shadows...) The story of the MV seems to be that the rest of humanity has sheltered away under force fields after the apocalypse. This gives nature time to heal. Musically I can already say this is one of their best songs for me. The chorus slaps hard, and the variations between heavy and slow are just beautiful. It has emotion and impact at the same time. Putting JiU's sweet voice together with an acoustic guitar is simply genius.

Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher! To give some context on Bon voyage, it's the third song in their Apocalypse trilogy. This trilogy is all about the damage humanity has done to our home (Earth) through our destructive nature's. Specifically, pollution and war. The first two songs in the trilogy cover these topics. So with that context, Bon voyage is about humanity having to leave Earth to let it heal from the damage we've done. My favorite line in the song is the pre-chorus. "Every cell in me is drawn to you. Even if we're a little apart, we're together'. Even if we leave Earth, gravity still pulls us back. Dreamcatchers core sound is Rock/Metal infused KPop but their discography is incredibly diverse. While all their title tracks have that core sound, their b-sides have EDM, Jazz, funk, reggae, rock, metal, pop, r&b, and much more throughout. They have a comeback on July 10th which is the second part of the Versus duology. The new EP, Virtuous, will have the title track Justice and will be a follow up to their Villains EP with the title OOTD.

Welcome to InSomnia (Dreamcatcher fandom name) To go that deep into the lyrics and the songs of DreamCatcher you will need some background information. If you check the KProfile of DreamCatcher you will see one extra line: Nightmare. For example: SuA Nightmare: Fear of restraint. The reason for this is when DreamCatcher basically Re-Debuted (They were originally a bubbly pop group of 5 called Minx, but instead of disbanding they have added two new members Handong and Gahyeon and had a new debut on a Friday , January 13th ) they have started out with the lore of them being nightmares (only true for the Nightmare series, not for any other M/V outside the 7 title tracks) and started the Nightmare arc storyline. The Nightmare series consists of 6+1 loosely connected M/Vs where the 7 of them were witches and parts of the same coven but due to the curse of the spider they have turned into nightmares and got stuck, being hunted and trying to break free. The order of the M/Vs is a little bit up for debate, the release order is Chase me, Good night, Fly High (prequel of the story), you and I, What, Piri, and the alternate ending of the story is Breaking out which is a Japanese song. They have two other finished storylines, the Dystopia trilogy (talking about cyberbullying and negativism etc) and the Apocalypse trilogy (environmentalism, humanity vs nature) But to mix things up a little most of the Dreamcatcher lyrics have multiple layers and never too specific and up for interpretation. Chase me also talks a little bit about them as a group, how they do not fit in the industry but still doing their own thing unbothered even though Dreamcatcher was and still a bit is the black sheep of KPop, coming from a small company that breaks stereotypes mixing in Rock / J-pop. They were never really accepted in Korea, their strong support is mostly International. Their members had much more freedom from the get go and now they are under DreamCatcher company. They are allowed to have and show their tattoos, express themselves freely etc. More about the story line after you cover Good Night which is the direct continuation of Chase me (hence the to be continued)

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 "Chase me" was their debut, released on January 13th (a Friday), 2017. It must have been nerve-wrecking for the members, re-debuting with a genre that is not popular in Korea after Minx failed. (5 of them were Minx before.) But they already doubled their sales with this. And they stuck with the Rock/Metal vibe until today, now selling 50 times the albums than Minx did. This is the start of the Nightmare arc, which spans 6 MVs and 1 Japanese release. They are Nightmares here, and the Nightmare hunter is trying to dispel them - how that turns out is shown in the next one, Good Night. Remember the ending here for when you react to Good Night!

All the time Umji spent in GFriend she was always marginalised and not given any role in the group bar maknae. She was picked off the street literally by their CEO when he saw her walking home from school with her pals. She had no real desire to be an idol and had never even tried to audition to be one. He gave her his card and asked her to visit their underground cellar which was all they could afford to rent. She passed the audition she went for and got put in GFriend straight after. SinB was told to train her at dancing which she resented at the time but they couldn’t afford to employ full time staff to do that. They had no other groups or artists to help them and the company was on the brink of bankruptcy. Two trainees left the company just before GFriend debuted so the CEO was in a panic but a staff member remembered a girl who had impressed him when he had worked at a previous company but who had given up on being an idol and resigned, as she thought all the other trainees were prettier and more talented than she was. Fortunately he still had her families contact details and she was contacted and brought in as a last minute replacement before GFriend debuted. That girl was Eunha and SinB was amazed when she walked in on her first day as she recognised her as a childhood friend she had lost contact with. They used to go to dance classes together and were in the same dance group and SinB often had sleepovers at her house. It was fate. It is remarkable how GFriend became one of the most loved groups in Korea from such humble beginnings, using their break time to cross the street just so they could see sunlight as their company offices had no windows underground and to use the rest rooms of an office block opposite them. They have remained humble and grateful ever since and success never changed them. They became the 4th most successful girl group in Kpop history with 71 music show wins for being number 1 that week. Try listening to Mago their final song before they were suddenly disbanded and some of their earlier songs like Time for the Moon Night, Rough and Navillera. They never had a rapper and they were all vocalists which gave a great grounding when 3 members subsequently became VIVIZ. They had the most synchronised dancing of any group and invented x2 dance on the famous variety show Weekly Idol when a fan wrote in to challenge them to dance at double speed without warning or practice. This became a regular slot on the show after that as it was so much fun to watch and very popular with the viewers.
