Lower Michigan has a lot of extremely beautiful places, but I wouldn't trade living in the UP for anything.
@livinginnorthernmichiganАй бұрын
The UP is amazing. As Northern Lower MI gets more crowded the UP definitely becomes more appealing. In particular, I find myself at a place on the Tahquamenon River each summer. Unreal peace, quiet, and natural beauty.

The Crooked Lake we are discussing is located in Emmet County 7 miles north of Petoskey, MI. Crooked Lake is part of The Inland Waterway.

Looks gorgeous. How do you handle winter? I am from California
@livinginnorthernmichigan2 ай бұрын
Hi Willy Clarke. We love winters here in Northern Michigan. I was born and raised in California so winters here took a little getting used to but are exciting. There are several ski resorts within minutes of Crooked Lake and Petoskey. Also when the lake freezes over there is ice fishing, ice skating, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and more. The communities have a lot of winter festivals and activities. Also, the scenery is beautiful when there is fresh fallen snow. We will make sure to do some winter videos highlighting activities and the scenery. Subscribe to get notified of new videos.

Is the town Delton? Looking at google maps, I can't see how you get from there to Lake Michigan?
@livinginnorthernmichigan2 ай бұрын
Hi @timflaherty2731. Not sure which town is Delton. Even though it is just 2.5 miles east of Little Traverse Bay, Crooked Lake does not connect directly to Lake Michigan. The Inland Waterway takes you out into Lake Huron which then connects to the Lake Michigan in the Straits of Mackinac.
@timflaherty27312 ай бұрын
@@livinginnorthernmichigan I googled crooked lake michigan on google maps and it came up south of Grand Rapids, and just to the east of it was a town called Delton. But that is clearly not the same lake as the one you're talking about. Thanks, your area looks beautiful!

I wouldn't put any of those towns in my top ten, and I've been to them all many times, when I worked in the area. I guess if you are from Traverse City and don't want to drive too far, they are nice enough. Those town are Convenient and that's what really makes them "Nice" for people who live in the area, they aren't really NICE enough to visit, not if you live anywhere else in the North, because there will be nicer places closer to you that are not nearly so overcrowded. This must be a list for people who don't want to drive far from Traverse City and who don't mind a lot of traffic and crowds.

Truly does depend on what you like when you go to Northern Michigan. I used to like the towns of Petoskey and Harbor Springs and Charlevoix, , but they’re all growing so much, just like Traverse City is way too big, too much commercialization and horrible traffic jams at times which frankly is miserable. When I think northern Michigan, I prefer something more rural , pristine quieter lakes and not so crowded. It seems like everybody moving into these areas are basically duplicating what they’re running away from. They are nice to visit, but I can’t stand the traffic and the crowded restaurants. I seek something more peaceful. We bought a place on a beautiful 100 acre clean lake near Lewiston Michigan and just love it, much quieter ,all the convenience we need but it’s certainly not overrun with commercialization. And the real estate is much more affordable.

@@livinginnorthernmichigan thank you, I agree totally actually those are the times or in early June ( winter also) that we drive over from our place in Lewiston, to go there because we do love those areas. They’re so beautiful and it’s just so much quieter and enjoyable.
