This may be a long shot because the video is a few years old, but do you have an update on these guys? I saw some of these at a reptile show yesterday, and am trying to learn more about them. I was curious how yours were doing.

Would a 20gal long be fine for these guys?
@PredatoryExoticsАй бұрын
It depends on the dimensions, a 30cmx30cm base can hold 1-2 geckos but ideally you want a 45cmx45cm base which can hold approximately 5 geckos

Do you turn the eggs in the incubator?
@PredatoryExotics2 ай бұрын
No you need to keep the eggs in the same position they were laid. The embryo fuses to the inside of the shell with an air pocket at the top and if you turn the egg the embryo will drown.

Have you ever seen their habitat? Nothing like it. Thareyi are not found in an arid environment.
@PredatoryExotics2 ай бұрын
If you watch videos of people finding them in the wild they are concentrated around the rocky areas within their habitat which is what we have recreated within this enclosure. They can be found in semi-arid scrubland areas as shown by the climate data for the area looking at temperature graphs and average precipitation. If you meant ‘thayeri’ that’s actually the old subspecies classification and the current taxonomic name for this species is Lampropeltis leonis and not Lampropeltis mexicana thayeri.

A wonderful setup brother. For some reason the notification for this video is the first Ive gotten from you in a long time. I need to check my settings. It is so very clear that you have great compassion for the critters. With that,I can trust your opinions and suggestions in critter care. By its slow movement,Id say your snake is comfortable with you. Another reason to respect your opinion. If money was your only goal,your attention wouldnt be focused on the critters comfort. Much respect to you brother. Thanks for the useful info.😊

If u could answer this itll be great but can they eat ants from an ant farm?
@PredatoryExotics4 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t suggest feeding ants to your reptiles unless they are a specialised ant eater such as a horned lizard. Ants can be quite aggressive especially when a predator starts eating them so they have an increased risk of hurting your pet. Some ants can produce an acid as a defensive mechanism also which wouldn’t be good for your pet. Maybe stick to some of the more regular feeder insects, hope this helps.

Ive got the same size tank as you have, people are saying its to small , they say I need a 20 gallon 20 inch long tank to get the proper heat gradient, that the cool side would only get to 83 degrees , so do I need to get a bigger tank or will this be ok for the hot, warm , cool temps?

What uvb and heat bulb should I use to get these temperatures in a 24x18x12 inch glass terrarium
@PredatoryExotics4 ай бұрын
A 6% uvb bulb is best, heat bulb will depend on the temperature of your room but around 50w hooked up to a dimming thermostat.

I bought exo terra terrarium 45x45x45 and I don’t know what lights they need and how strong. Do they need heating mat in so smal terrarium?
@PredatoryExotics4 ай бұрын
Although they are a desert species they don’t require the strongest UVB bulb because they are mostly nocturnal, a 6% bulb is perfect. As for heating there will need to be a hotspot of around 32 degrees Celsius, a heat bulb on a dimming thermostat would be better than a heat mat.

is play sand safe and can i use it in there enclosure?
@PredatoryExotics4 ай бұрын
Play sand is the only sand to use with reptiles but this species doesn’t come from sand dunes so mix play sand with top soil or just buy an arid bedding of a similar style.

Does anyone think that a juvenile tokay gecko can live in this?
@PredatoryExotics5 ай бұрын
Yes when tokay geckos are born they are about the length of a finger so this size enclosure would be a great grow out tank, the extra height also is great for this arboreal species.

The only hang up i have is the top plastic piece of the exo. Does it pose any issues when lighting or using a heat emitting element? The smallest im getting is 24x18x36 inches. So im supposing the dome im using will fit so as to not go over the plastic.
@PredatoryExotics5 ай бұрын
Yes that can be an issue on some of the smaller enclosures, you have to find a small enough dome so the plastic doesn’t melt. This shouldn’t be an issue with the larger enclosures as they have ample space for large domes.
@richardsanchez54445 ай бұрын
@@PredatoryExotics in your experience, is it better to group together the uv, heat source and lighting for the plants?
@PredatoryExotics5 ай бұрын
The plants just want the light so LED is best for the plants and depending on plant species will depend on their heat tolerance.
