In Europe there are OM651 EVERYWHERE. My conclusion to the reliability is that there are so many of them, but more than a few have timing chain issues. I’m not sure as to why it’s a weakness, but seems like most say it’s a stress/old oil/single chain weakness thing. But still some taxis etc make it to like 500k km. I’ve had 1 in a E250 CDI 4 matic. With over 200k km ran like new.

@@MBDieselFreak I like that 🙂 So I had someone replace the oil cooler on my ML350 and there are 2 long bolts (tork head) that were left out. I have been trying to figure out where they go and thats how I happened on your channel. I want to show you the picture of the bolts and being an expert hope you would be able to point me in the right direction

@pandapuffgaming5902 I would have no idea, not fresh enough in my memory to recall where they go. HOWEVER, I do know that typically any bolt longer than 3-4" on a mercedes is typically used to hold on manifolds, throttle valves, mass airflow sensor housings, air filter boxes, thermostat housing, etc. Essentially anything that has a long pass through before the threads. I'd start checking there.

This engine water pump has a shroud that is pulled round the impeller by vacuum, the impeller still turns but not in the water, as shroud covers it, when block temperature goes up the shroud/cover starts to drop down letting water pump impeller circulate the water, it helps warm heater up quickly of course, but I’m told the main reason is hot engine more efficient burn of fuel, less pollution better MPG quicker.

As long as you do regular oil and filter changes with good oil, the chain should last a long time, I know a Mercedes mechanic, neglecting it is what causes the problem, so many thousands of these engines used, and as always a few problems on line and it gets blown out of proportion, hydraulic power steering much better feel, AMG keeps it for this reason !!! good video, thanks.

Great video. thanks! A few questions: 1. How applicable is this video to the OM642 in a 2008 Sprinter? Specifically, I'm wondering about reattaching the exhaust to the rear of the turbo. On my 2008 Sprinter, when we disconnected the exhaust from turbo, 4 bolts came out, and one of the bolts is longer than the other 3 bolts. Do you have any guidance/tips/tricks/techniques to reattaching those rear facing bolts that can't be seen while doing it? And which hole gets the 1 long bolt? 2. What are your hands doing from kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2GUlIZ8rKplf5ofeature=shared&t=407 until the 30:54 mark? I don't see any bolts or anything in your hands, or coming or going from the picture. Please explain?? 3. Also what is the thing you set down at kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2GUlIZ8rKplf5ofeature=shared&t=411 ? Is that the oil cooler? 4. And what are the purple things you put on it? Are those the oil cooler seals? Thanks!

Flex disks were good tyres are new and balanced, wheel bearings are new.. no hums or other sounds just a hefty shudder like thr wheel is bouncing up and down on the road. Arms are fine too.

Just bought an OM648 E Class with 200k miles on it and it still rips. The Plastic intake was broken so the previous owner thought it has a faulty engine. I replaced it and now it runs like new. Only thing wrong with that engines is injector blow by leading to black death. Mine does not have that but it is definitely a thing to look after.

I bought a 2013 GLK250 BlueTec new and still have it, now it's over 220,000km, over the 11 years, all the issues were emission parts, NO2 sensors, AdBlue lines, AdBlue heaters...etc, the engine itself is very good and runs smoothly and powerfully. However, after the a recall to tune the engine and transmission, I found the engine has much less power since then and the 7G transmission can no longer shift smoothly as before.

DPF codes on this engine are tricky. I went down a rabbithole on the codes. The reason fore the codes was a leak in the boostpipe. After changing the boostpipe, the car sortet out the codes. Watch out fore clogging in the intake manifold, around 250 000km. If i remember correct the code is someting A200 ***. I changed the intake manifold. About 10hour job (im a amature), MBDieselFreak refered to 5 hours.
