Anyway, tomorrow’s my first time taking glow plugs out after about 300videos!!!! The engine will be hot, so wish me luck..

Sure, you can replace one injector and it will work, but proper way is to change all of them when one fail.

Hi, thank you for an informative video. My ML350 CDi starts and then dies. Have you ever come across this problem? It runs for 1-3 seconds and then dies. It has new low and high pressure pumps, new fuel rail pressure sensor, new fuel rail pressure regulating valve, new fuel filter, 6 new injectors, new fuel pump relay, new cam shaft sensor, turbo refurbished. Because of the struggling I now have to replace the battery. Day 1 after coming from workshop it starts easily, day two it starts and runs but shudders a bit and then runs perfectly. The next day it starts for 1 second and dies. So basically every morning on first start. Then its dead.

Thank you for making this video! It really helped a lot. I don't think I would have tried this without your step by step guide. For those of you giving this a shot themselves; - I ordered brand new axle shaft nuts at €5 a piece. Mine had it's keeper pried and tightened once too many IMO. - The nuts and bolts on the control arms are really tight and needed a lot of persuasion to come loose. - I tightened these nuts back on to 50NM torque + 90° turn. But it worked out great: the error is gone and I'm in control of the gas pedal again. Why would the car lunge and throttle on it's own without this sensor functioning? I get the ABS & ESP, but what about the automatic transmission? I often had to stomp the brakes to prevent the car from accelerating on it's own ,without even touching the gas pedal. The car even kept on revving up under brakes? Weird. But all fixed now 🙂

I’m surprised the US doesn’t get diesels after 17. The engine i really want is the OM656 in the form of E400d E-Class All Terrain - there’s only a small batch of them in Australia that were a cancelled police vehicle order. I’ll be waiting for a lot more depreciation to take effect yet… There’s a W212 6 cyl 2012 BlueTec I want - but I’ll definitely be considering four cylinder options thanks to your informative video. I think Australia is only getting diesel in SUVs now, and no longer in the E-Class. Thanks for the run through of options! Good vid!

the 651 has problems with the oil pump. its a 2 stage pump so the oil pressure doenst go over 2bar under 2krpm. i suggest deleting the solenoid and locking the pump to high pressure mode. it makes everything last longer. timing chain lasts 300k kms on the 651. if the engine is ran low on oil the bearings will bite into the crank and spin bearings. these engines dont last with a lot of coldstarts and long oilchange intervals. change the oil every 10k kms/6k mi. ultra common engine in finland. over 60% of benzes currently for sale here are with 651 engine. very good engine IF maintained correctly. 180cdi models are extremely underpowered, same for 200cdi (single turbo models) 220/250cdis are awesome, the power curve is amazing

you don't remove internal parts of nozzle not to let contaminants go inside,but you sandpaper it?? something weird about it man
@MBDieselFreak
@MBDieselFreak 21 күн бұрын
Every single diesel injection shop laps components when rebuilding, its a requirement to get a good seal between steel surfaces. The tolerance between the nozzle and plunger are too small to let lapping contaminants in. As long as the contaminants are removed after lapping, it's not a problem. 5 years later and the same injectors are still working perfectly.

@massimilianocampana3951 the more I've talked to diesel techs, the more I agree with that. A ton of rebuilders remove the nozzle plunger and have no issues as long as everything is cleaned before reassembly. It was just a myth that removing the plunger = bad juju.

what? why put balance shafts on a diesel? You hit your head lad? What vibrates more than a diesel engine? And whats wrong with the timing chain? Its in the back because its not supposed to be serviced or replaced and only runs the valves and nothing else.

Oil cooling is not making sense on this engine. First trying to cool the oil to 100 Deg Celsius, using coolant at temperature 108 C. Second - the water pump stops turning at speed to save fuel. Oil pump decreases debit as well. Oil pressure drops and oil temperature goes up. Engine seizes not even being under load. Had one and seized and repaired too many times. Mercedes said the have to replace the whole engine block. Replaced with a petrol engine.

I have a 2005 OM648 W211 with only 58k miles on it, it will outlive me and possibly my teenage son! Just de catted it and give it a nice balanced map for economy and a bit of extra oomph when needed. Service it every 5k miles using only OEM parts or Bosch at the very least. The only downside is that stupid SBC pump issue so have money aside for when that goes (if you're not in the USA) I'm in the UK and Mercedes screwed us hard with that! No 25 year warranty for us. Word to the wise be very careful about blanking the egr as these engines will run hotter with it and risk frying your head gasket. Just pull the inlet/egr every summer clean it out and do the swirl flap mod while you're at it and it will sail to a million no problem.

Hoping you can assist me as I have been chasing gremlins in my OM648 2006 e320) for a few months now and not sure what to do next. I have the low rail pressure code and progressively replaced pretty much the whole fuel path from the cheapest item to the most expensive. I have replaced: - Fuel Filter. - Fuel pressure sensor (Bosch) - Fuel pressure regulator (Bosch) - In tank fuel pump assembly - the whole thing with the hoses (Bosch) - New hoses (from filter to High Pressure Pump and return hose from pump). (OE MB) - and finally just today installed new rebuilt high pressure pump (Bosch) Car seems to drive better than it did before the HP pump replacement but still throws the low rail pressure code albeit not as soon as it used to. I still have my old fuel rail sensors but not the HP pump as I sent that core back. I plan to put my old sensors back and see if that makes a difference but thought I'd write to you first. Car has 340,000km and I have not removed the injectors yet. I'm really at a loss what to do next and could use your guidance. I had high hopes for the HP pump to finally solve the issue but was quite shocked when it didn't.

In Europe there are OM651 EVERYWHERE. My conclusion to the reliability is that there are so many of them, but more than a few have timing chain issues. I’m not sure as to why it’s a weakness, but seems like most say it’s a stress/old oil/single chain weakness thing. But still some taxis etc make it to like 500k km. I’ve had 1 in a E250 CDI 4 matic. With over 200k km ran like new.

This engine water pump has a shroud that is pulled round the impeller by vacuum, the impeller still turns but not in the water, as shroud covers it, when block temperature goes up the shroud/cover starts to drop down letting water pump impeller circulate the water, it helps warm heater up quickly of course, but I’m told the main reason is hot engine more efficient burn of fuel, less pollution better MPG quicker.
