@HaroldWalden22 күн бұрын
No, in situations such as this (no air resistance) the horizontal velocity is assumed to be constant.

I'm not a scholar by any stretch, but wouldn't the weight of the car make a difference in a real life scenario?
@HaroldWalden3 ай бұрын
Hi Paul, in this situation the driver presses down the brake pedal and the car deaccelerates at a rate of 10m/s/s. The deceleration experienced by the car will be commensurate with the force which is applied to the four brake rotors and the mass of the car according to Newtons 2nd Law (F=ma). So, in essence you are right about the mass playing a key role - its just factored into the information provided in the question. I hope this helps. Harold :)

@@HaroldWalden My day job involves testing brakes on cars and light trucks in one of two ways. Firstly; by way of of a brake roller machine where we take the sum of each wheel's effort and divide by tare weight to give a percentage, pretty easy. (50% is considered a pass) Secondly, measuring stopping distance over 7 meters, from 30kph. The car passes if the stopping distance is within 7 meters. I was asked, (during an audit) why I didn't write the percentage onto the check sheet. I'm not educated enough to know the answer, but I feel the answer lies in your video somewhere? Thanks for reading mate 👍

But how do you know if you found the minimum or maximum. You need to substitute values less and more than the value found to confirm the turning point is an approximate way. Another way is to use second derivative test.

One question. How would I know if the initial speed is 0 or it starts at 69.4 m/s? I was confused that how you counted that as 0 as a plane can't start at 0 on air. So every time I got wrong answers have both initial and final v as the same answer.
@HaroldWalden7 ай бұрын
Great question. Because the question says that the plane is travelling horizontally we can say that the vertical component of it's velocity is zero when the package is dropped. The horizontal component of the package's velocity (if we dont consider air resistance) is constant throughout the package's journey towards the ground and is equal to the velocity of the plane. Only the vertical component of the package's velocity will be affected by the force of gravity. We use the vertical component of the packages motion to determine the total time of the package's journey and the horizontal component of the package's velocity to determine the total horizontal distance it travels after it is released from the plane. I hope that explanation helps. :)

I don’t understand why the equation of the circle is x^2 + (y-k)^2 = I don’t understand why the y-k
@HaroldWalden9 ай бұрын
The y-k shifts the centre of the circle k-units up. Because the x-value of the circle’s centre is zero there didn’t have to be any translation horizontally.
