I've had 2 so far, both early model 1999's and the one I daily drive has a 2003 engine swapped in it with low miles. Got it for $300 from the local junkyard, out of a rolled truck. Only had 80,000 miles when we got it. I recommend a nice built transmission if you really work the trucks, I've wore out 3 stock 4r100s so far. 😂
@invalidargument2.024 күн бұрын
@@Rebel-NeckAre the 4R100s known for going out faster when paired to the V10? I think my first 7.3 had a 4R100 and it always slammed between 1st and second if you were laying into the throttle. I mostly just wanna buy one for a toy / back up vehicle. I only have to drive 10ish minutes to get to town work etc so mpg isn't a big deal. I ended up finding a really good deal on a higher mileage 02 F250 5.4 2 valve. I've had it out of state twice and put about 3k miles on it. It needs new plugs (not doing that myself lol) and some minor front end maintenance but it's been a really good truck to me so far although I've seriously been considering trading it up for a cleaner V10 with lower miles
@Rebel-Neck24 күн бұрын
@invalidargument2.0 the 4r100s that are paired to the diesels have extra clutch packs over what they use for the gas engines transmission. It's the same transmission, but they have different clutch kits for each engine that uses the 4r100, I personally haven't had the opportunity to go with a built transmission but after alot of reading to find some kind of performance for the triton v10, I found most folks liked the feel of a purpose built transmission (roughly 2,500-$3000) and a tuner. I would like to also go with long tube headers and a cam in the future for mine. I was quoted $2500 for a mega-monster overhaul kit and they asked me some questions about what I would be using the truck for mainly.
@Rebel-Neck24 күн бұрын
@invalidargument2.0 that clunk actually isn't bad for the transmission, there's some forums about it online for the diesels specifically the 7.3 Another transmission i heard is pretty tunable if you can get it paired to a v10 is the 5r110, but I do not know much about it and I couldn't find much info other then a few threads where a guy did a swap using one to swap a v10 into a f150

Typically a diesel starts to run away after it blows a head gasket and starts sucking motor oil as fuel. Diesel engines hold 16 quarts of oil or more.
@BACKWOODZCUSTOMZPULLING Жыл бұрын
I've never seen one do it with a head gasket.. that would seem pretty hard to do.. as it's usually only 1 or 2 cylinders and you would be hurting compression... Most of the time the oil seal on the turbo blows and feeds all cylinders
@kevinthorrington2131 Жыл бұрын
@@BACKWOODZCUSTOMZPULLING I was working on a 671 Detroit diesel when it started to run away. After detonation we took the engine apart to see what caused the runaway. There was catastrophic failure of the head gasket causing it to suck oil out of the crank case. Made a big boom when it stopped.
