This video pretty much sums up why I genuinely hope we don’t find other intelligent life. Look at how humanity has treated other humans, with the differences between them being something like just looking different, or practicing a different religion. If that’s how humanity can, and will, treat other humans like that, think about how we would treat another species entirely that’s just as, or more intelligent than us. And let’s be honest, there would be plenty of people saying that if god wanted those aliens to exist, he would have made them in his image. I would not be xenophobic as long they're cute looking.

Thing is, the games I try to be diplomatic, democratic, pacifistic even, are the games where I'm constantly at war while my militaristic, authoritarian empires are always games where I have to initiate the conflict (And I'm a very defensive type player. I focus forever on eco until I steamroll the enemy in the end.). The AI, even on Grand Admiral, are fucking cowards that never actually declare war unless they have roughly half the galaxy if not more united under their banner that all hate your guts. You have to basically be aggressive and I'm not aggressive at all. Oh once you declare war on me, it's like a different person replaces me: I go from "Administrating Empire" to "INITIATE TOTAL WAR PROTOCOLS".

For thousands of years, why has there been so little auditing? It’s the same here, with income and expenses not regularly audited publicly in a transparent manner. I play an empire that’s based off of the Empire from Star Wars and House Steiner from Battletech/Mechwarrior Needless to say, xenophobia run strong in my empire - the less humanoid they are the less likely they will be seen as sentient. So can imagine my surprise when my empire was nearly destroyed by a gecko species whose xenophobia put mine to shame… …and it took 5 end game crises - the Ghost signal, blokkats, the Flood, the Robot Queen, and Katzimperium - to stall them enough for me to deploy my remaining 4 Home fleets consisting of 2 Death Stars, 6 Star Destroyers, 8 Palleon Star Destroyers, 2 Archangels, 2 Super Star Destroyers, 1 Attack Moon, 2 Behemoth Planet craft, 4 Sith Star Destroyers, 4 Overlord dropships, and 1 Systemcraft to level their home fleet and destroy their home world. But even then I had to hunt down any survivors with my remaining 1.5 fleets… I barely survived
