Jarod, this introduction, excerpt and journey are magnificent. I can relate as I too remediated my depression by re/connecting with nature. I’m keen for the release of this title. 👊🏼

Hi Jared, first, I’m a big fan. Second, this is so relatable. I am in a big “why make more art when nobody cares” place, so this gives me a push. Also, about a year ago I asked if I could use one of your poems to accompany a painting I was creating for a poetry and art show here in LA. You graciously said yes. But then the gallery cancelled the show, never explained why. (Insert sound of balloon deflating: pfffft!) Time to revisit that painting. Cheers- hang tough.

It's a strange balance sometimes, between wanting to connect with people (outcomes) and enjoying a connection with the work itself (process). For me, focusing mostly on process seems to be the best option for both the work and my mental health.

Hi! Thank you for your video! This is exactly what I've needed. ❤ I have been through so much in the last 6 months. I had to quit my job because of mental health reasons and I'm so broke now. As a result, it opens my life up for more art. The downside is no money. 🤣 I guess I'm not afraid because I'd rather be broke than dead and I'd rather make art and be broke than be dead. I appreciate you. I will keep trying to remember the little things, the processes I can control. I have so many ideas. Books, visual art pieces and series, and other things. One thing at a time. Baby steps. And what my first goals I'm working on now are taking care of me. ❤

I mostly agree. I think we can make changes without being angry. I think we can identify injustices and do something about it without being afraid or incensed or agitated. It's hard, but the methods are available. Like you said, we're built to scan for threats and make that a priority, and social media feeds on that, but we're also capable of recognizing our mental states and assessing things as they are. That's the trick.

I struggle with the clash between finding inner peace and fighting injustices. Anger and judgement are useful as motivators to take action against oppression in its various forms, but it does cause us to suffer. I've found ways to deal with that; it's an ongoing journey.

I've struggled with bipolar disorder and self-shame in the past. One of the things that has truly helped me in the past few years has been embracing non-judgement, not only in others, but myself as well. The concepts in this video run parallel to my experiences.

I love this so much. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and strength. I am irrevocably moved by your prose and continue to be awed by your insight. As a fellow neurodivergent being who suffers from chronic anxiety and depression, it is often difficult for me to see the good and beauty in the world. You help me remember that most people on this earth, our fellow travelers, are of the same mindset. We all want to feel loved, worthy and important. The internet makes our personal struggles seem so small, yet to the individual it is all consuming. Thank you for giving us the unique gift of your worldview. I can never repay you for your kind words other than with my own existence, my efforts to live and create and make sure my family thrives and feels loved. You have my endless gratitude. <3

"Threat as place". My dude. This. "I seek out things that make me feel hopeful." This. "Sometimes, the portion of nature for which we are best positioned to care and preserve is ourselves." Yes. This. And also every other word.

I agree so much! I have no doubt that social media sites by these big tech megacorporations are artificial and unnatural constructs that many of us just allow to program our minds through anger and fear. It's so important to listen to your own body and the people physically around you.

Thanks for this man. I love a lot of your content, and so much of it resonates with me. I'm not American, but it's hard to ignore nevertheless. I'm a nurse, and sometimes I wonder about this job and it's impact on the world. Feels pretty bleak out here sometimes. When I've had a really bad shift or I'm really dreading going into the hospital, I often listen to your podcast episode "Pep Talk". It really grounds me and helps me get my mind in a place where I can do this another day. So thanks in particular for that!

Just what I have been going through, during a personal experiment of mine involving social media detox. While I haven't really stopped social media entirely, I do avoid the bombardment of newsfeeds of certain ones and my mind is much clear after a week. Thank you for this golden video clip and for spreading the words of wisdom.
