These looks great! I’ve been looking for videos similar to this. I’ve got an old truck that the previous owner cut the frame where the front bumper attaches, and I don’t like the look of it. I haven’t learned to weld yet, so I don’t how to go about making it possible to attach a bumper to the truck. Any tips? ‘67 Dodge D200.

You can definitely anneal steel. When I offer steel for knife making, I order the annealed steel, because it’s easier to grind.

Once the desired shape is acheived .... is there a way to heat it so it gets its rigidity and strength back ? Thanks
@Iconicmetalworks
@Iconicmetalworks Жыл бұрын
You soften it because of work harding and continue to work it to your desired shape which will work harden back or some so theres no need to to heat it this process will only make it softer

I use the bead roller with bead dies that works pretty well for doing shrinks as long as you close the end first.

You got that right, the cutting edge has to be the highest point of contact. It's like sharpening a hand saw, even a crude sharpening can give a big improvement. With some practice you get a lot better at it. I've always used the fine grit wheel of a bench grinder. You need a dressing tool to keep the surface smooth. I like the ones with the hardened steel disks, because you don't need to buy new wheels very often, just refinish (or dress) them. I put my non-dominant hand (left) palm up on the tool-rest and hold the cutting- edge parallel to the wheel face where the grinding happens. The twist drill will be 20 or 30 degrees off of perpendicular. You then use the other hand to bring the cutting edge up to a right angle with the face of the grinding wheel. Starting here at the cutting edge you make a light cut and lift the end of the drill to continue down the back face. The first hand acts like a clamp to hold the angle, and the second hand moves the drill The second hand moves the grinder cut so the cutting edge is the highest point of contact. You line it up, make a light pass, the first hand never moves (it's a clamp) and the second hand spins the drill around 180 degrees and you make exactly the same light pass again. This is very awkward in words, but if you grind so the cutting edge is highest, it all makes sense in the real world. Sometimes a light pass is all you need. Once you get it figured out, you can do it almost effortlessly.

Shot in the dark here but you're clearly the man to ask. *Thick Aluminum* - I need to bend an all aluminum Grab Bar for my Tri-Z (3-wheeler/ATV). It's a Professionally custom made unit for another machine (85/86 ATC250R) but I've had it for so long it's almost got some feelins to me & I'd love to make it work. It's essentially too wide & rather than doing spacers/whatever I'm confident adding a 2-2.5 +/- inch 90 degree bend on one or both sides would do me.
