I owned a 71 1302S here in the U.K. in 1985 it was an old car by then I bought it for £75 and sold it after two years for £265 it gave me sterling service during my ownership and was a beast in the snow 👍🏻🇬🇧

I love the rough truck videos.
@MrCheck3010 күн бұрын
These are my favorite trucks of all time. The suburban of this gen was just right and is basically an enclosed 8ft bed that can also seat 7. I just picked up the escalade version and I am on my 8th one and I will continue to purchase more as time goes on.
@BaldSpotGarage9 күн бұрын
They are good trucks, and generally quite reliable. This is not the first one my buddy has had, and probably won’t be his last. I have been thinking about possibly getting one to replace my van as a tow vehicle myself.

Drove my uncle's 86 Taurus wagon while on vacation. It was doing the shimmy dance... looked it up.Was subframe mounts fixed under recall. It had two open as well IIRC .
@BaldSpotGarage10 күн бұрын
The subframe/k-member problem is a lot of cars, also rot in the chassis where the mounts bolt in can also be a problem on some cars. My ‘02 Buick LeSabre had that issue

I used to have one like that. 1971 with struts. I bought it for $700 with a blown engine. Rebuilt it. Is wonder if that’s my old bug
@BaldSpotGarage24 күн бұрын
The original owner kept it until about 10 yrs ago.

drop pan change pickup o ring new gasket. change oil next.
@BaldSpotGarageАй бұрын
I had forgotten to mention the O-ring in the video as a possibility, but once we found all the silver and copper glitter in the oil, we decided not to pursue that as the engine has bigger problems. 👍🏻

Forbidden glitter in the oil is never a good sign..

It’s all the bike I need for cruising, except I am a little tall for it. It is a bit uncomfortable to ride any real distance.
@KenSciologistАй бұрын
Put the choke on, press the starter holding the Throttle to Max for 3 to 4 seconds, then let go of the throttle while still cranking. Repeat until the bike starts. On a cold day I have to do this 3 or 4 times.
@BaldSpotGarageАй бұрын
When it hasn’t been sitting in storage, and the battery is fully charged it starts on about the third revolution every time, choke on, no throttle.

What your secret in keeping that 2012 Honda accord looking brand new.

To start with it was my father’s car before he passed away, and was garage kept until about 4 years ago. I have tried to keep it looking nice and about once a year I do a full bumper to bumper cleaning and detail including the engine compartment. That clean and detail happened just before doing the transmission service.
@jaiverma3090Ай бұрын
@@BaldSpotGarage could u share a video with the steps for cleaning /detailing your vehicle including the engine compartment? Thanks

This is an interesting series, I'll be following along. Why does the core support get so rusted out? I've seen rust in quarter panels and doors but it seem like only the astro van has this issue at the core support.
@BaldSpotGarageАй бұрын
I think it’s because the body mount supports are welded to the outside and they trap water

the owners booklet calls for 2.6 qt transmission fluid for the 4cylinder automatic. The v6 calls for 3.5qt. I had to double check.. other than that nice video
@BaldSpotGarage2 ай бұрын
I did say at the beginning that it was a 4 cylinder, but I guess I should have looked up the quantity for the V6 and stated that as well to give more complete information as the basic process would be the same either way. I will try to remember that for future videos. 👍🏻
@TR1CKSHOTS312 ай бұрын
@@BaldSpotGarage it’s no problem, I was kinda worried you put in 3.6qt that you stated in the video when it’s only 2.6qt.

The newer oem GM astro/safari batter tray 03-05 fit the 1st gen 85-94 perfectly but the hold down bolt is in the front instead of the rear. Bolts right in though and yours looks identical $159 AC delco tray.
@BaldSpotGarage2 ай бұрын
I did find a battery tray, which I will talk about in an upcoming video. Dorman makes a reproduction for much less that I ended up buying. I’m keeping the cost down as I probably won’t get a whole more time out of this van unfortunately.

Found your video on the Astro van site and welcome from W.V/Oh/Ky tristate. You speak well and should do real well. Are you a teacher etc.? My DD 92 Astro conversion van with a great core support thankfully. 😁
@BaldSpotGarage2 ай бұрын
No, I am not a teacher, I’m just a blue collar guy and ex military (though I do occasionally do tech sessions for a car club I am in with a classic car I own) BTW, I am in Ohio. This has been my shop van/ trailer towing vehicle for about 12 yrs. It’s been good to me, but unfortunately sits in a gravel driveway… so rust underneath it becoming an issue that is going to limit its future service life. ☹️
