I don't like to throw books away. I have books that I never read. What will I do with a poetry book? Might as well leave it in the bathroom because it is almost like decoration to have something sophisticated there.
@Sloarot4 күн бұрын
The real answer should be: how many of you here have read a poetry book lately? Raise your hand! .... THAT'S why! :-)
@h4nv5 күн бұрын
I was thinking that even though Walter was such a genius and tried to take everything into account - it was still his home, the so-called "safe place", so somewhere along the line he just forgot the book to bathroom and forgot it existed. You could think of it, as example, that someone who is living alone, accidentally leaving their adult toys in plain sight in the bathroom, because it feels safe to leave them there at time, and then the next time there is guests over and someone goes into the bathroom, all of a sudden they remember and panic "oh no,, those toys.." However, I don't remember if there was any scene where Walter left the book there, and how long ago it had been on this bathroom, but this is my possible theory with the book being on bathroom in _plain sight._
@gibster96245 күн бұрын
Yeah the execution of that scene was either masterfully vague so audiences could draw their interpretation or just a moment for the writers themselves to have an unusual moment of lazy writing. Which nothing wrong with either one. They certainly more than earned moments of weaker writing. Personally I wish that moment would have been more clear if Walt had become more careless. Just kind of comes off as dumb luck that Hank catches Walt. Which sort of cheapens Hank as a character.

I like the idea that was simply too arrogant to think anyone would notice. Maybe in some way he got off on knowing that he had a piece of critical evidence just lying out in the open in his home.

The only reason any lie or crime is brought to light is a moment of carelessness. Like another great show said "How can you never be late or slow?"

I firmly believe that Walt never so much as looked at the book Gale gave him. He brushed it off and immediately just put it away somewhere to forget about it because he didn't care about the gift or Gale for that matter

Where does it say or show that Walt is cautious and careful in everything? Or even plans for everything correctly? Yes he is a genius as in knowing all the chemistry or to plan a heist or something in the short term. But he is no Gustavo Fring or Mike for that matter. He doesn't have the decades of natural experience in the criminal business. All his actions and solving of problems were adhoc solutions. Everything about Walt and Breaking bad was chaotic. So I'm with Vince. He simply just forgot because he is not really the perfect criminal. He's just a criminal who happens to be smart in science. He uses science to not get caught and to eliminate his enemies, but it's not really the most efficient way of not getting caught or eliminating your enemies, it's just what Walt understands. What I don't agree with is that he didn't know that it was inscribed. Because I remember that he saw this and gave it a chuckle.

The easiest counter argument to this take is - in prior season Walter had the encounter with Hank with that guys book having W.W. inscribed. He narrowly escaped that scenario. As cautious as a man he was at the time, the first thing he should have done on getting home was to check the book he got from him & make sure there was nothing that could potentially incriminate him.

I would like to steal an explanation from Red Dragon: "why hide it, why not throw it away?" "He couldn't bear to part with it, it was full of compliments." Walt didn't get rid of it because of his ego. Another man, recognized his chemistry genius. And the unlikely situation that the only man that might visit his house and connect the inscription of a poetry book to a notorius crime syndicate is his not very cultured or literary brother in law, who's unlikely to look at a book of poems.

It reminds me of a crime scene investigator video I saw where she was explaining how they always catch people on stuff they overlooked. This one person committed a murder and wrote with their victim's blood an insulting message on the livingroom wall. It had an exclamationpoint at the end. He got caught because of that point. Because he used his full thumb to firmly plant a big fat red dot under the exclamation line, essentially printing a fingerprint. It's so dumb in hindsight, but I assume stupid stuff like that just goes over your head in the moment.

Yeah, it happened because that was the direction the writers had decided for the plot and they couldn't find any better way of doint it. Inmmersing yourself in the show while you're watching it is one thing but discussing it afterwards like the story happened for real and nobody knows how he could have done that mistake is delusional.

I almost might add how in the real world. Big time monsters like for example BTK was caught because he thought he was never going to be. I forgot where this quote was but it goes “The good guys make all kinds of mistakes,but the bad guy only has to make one”
