I can't stand the tremelo arm vibrato the beck uses. It's so primative ....sounds like an annoying child learning to play.

sOMEWHERE DURING THIS BLISTERING SPECTACLE, I LOST MY EQUALIBRIUM AND BLACKED OUT ONLY TO AWAKEN IN A DIZZYING PURPLE HAZE TEN YEARS AFTER. OOPs, I mean is ut just me, or does it sound like a fender vibrolux on the entire mix with some kid with his thumb on and off the vinyl? WOW Yeah sound like Chorus + John playing quarter tones, aided by tons of wow and flutter but wow what a Lazy sounding digs that it makes for. Another Bong? Who needs it when I'm stone cold sober, yet spinnin like a top

Wonderful! What I love most about these two guitarists is they both sound completely different than the other, and they're both equally great. At minute 3:13 Beck's solo is just incredible, the sounds he gets are amazing. You know they were being pushed by the other to play at a higher level. Nice compilation of two of the greatest.

Let's see some 1972-76 Beck and McLaughlin for some REAL action. Check out "Love, Devotion, Surrender" the Carlos Santana/John McLaughlin colab album. Carlos could've sat in with a vintage Mahavishnu lineup anytime and held his own back then.

I have a feeling that after Les Paul and Gene Vincent, John McLaughlin was the next most influential guitarist, and Blow By Blow would not have been possible without John McLaughlin's influence. Among the musicians who took part in the Jeff Beck tribute concert organised by Clapton, it was John McLaughlin who gave the most outstanding performance. The depth of the Jeff and John bond was felt.
@chunyemalerguognimamuol25067 күн бұрын
The member of musicians on that concert had a good line-up, but the musicians didn't seem to have had much practice, and the performance had the feel of a primary school music recital, with a lot of noise and messiness. However, I believe that John stood on stage with the Jeff Beck Band, played his guitar with sincerity and with his feelings for Jeff.
@costabotes91073 күн бұрын
One should also mention Derek Trucks as an honourable exception to the ‘messiness’. His rendition of Goodby Pork Hat was pretty spellbinding, and for me evoked the spirit of Beck.
@barrieflix3 күн бұрын
I was there at the Albert Hall - Not unexpectedly the guitar playing wasn't as good as the man himself (who I saw many times live). John McLaughlin was probably closest technically, though Derek Trucks was probably closest to that Beck sound. I think actually Imelda May was my favourite moment.
