I recently attended a grazing school put on by Purdue University and one of their professors did a presentation showing how rotationally grazing cattle is better for the environment, reduces greenhouse emissions and sequesters more carbon than vegetable farming and row crop farming.

Looks good on the board, but our market is typically $5 per pound with buyer paying processing, or $7 per pound with processing included. $15 per is not attainable in our area.

My problem is I live around Amish. As soon as you start something they low ball you. Tell their friends and they also do it. Everyone would rather buy from Amish for bragging rights. Even though they raise them super cheap so the beef is cheap, then they come to me complaining about their product.
@CyborgHGWFАй бұрын
It’s very hard to sell anything to the Amish and make a profit. but here’s the thing to consider. They buy tractors now and don’t do anything by hand anymore and as well they use cellphones now. So this new website. They are gonna sell stuff and buy from a website because they won’t do harder work if they don’t have to. Think of that.

If all the students aggressively flooding the market, then when will the citizen locals get jobs. Employers should be by law forced to hire locals first before even try to interview international students.

Why is grass fed all natural beef more than grain finished antibiotic beef? Why is raw sugar higher than white processed sugar?
@FarmRebelHQ4 ай бұрын
When it comes to beef, it often takes longer and requires more land to finish on grass. Also, many grass-finished operations have fewer cattle, so to make a living off the operation the pricing model has to be based on margin, not volume. There are many variables depending on the farm or ranch. Great question!

$15/lb! That’s crazy for most people. How about something actually affordable and sustainable? Even $10/lb would be higher end. Where does your $5/lb cost come in?
@FarmRebelHQ4 ай бұрын
Great question. We don't recommend a business that's "all things for all people". You're much better of choosing a premium niche. Also, for most smaller producers, they actually need to make their nut on margin because they are unable to produce volume. As far as the $5/lb cost, that's based on cutting and wrapping and fulfillment.

We aren't talking about the hustle and grind culture. For instance, most producers don't want to deal with the learning curve to sell direct to consumer. Not doing the hard thing in that case is costing farmers and ranchers. Contextualize.

Just got to leave a comment and tell you how helpful these videos are. We have been farming as a hobby for 10 years now and are finally weeks away from opening up our own farm store selling our products to the public. Between pricing, marketing and all the other aspects it is overwhelming to think about but like you say, it’s about taking massive action and learning from others. Thanks for taking your time to make these videos. 🇨🇦
