I've had two Dodges in my lifetime and that Chrysler crank is so distinctive. I so remember the carb years. Unless the fittings leaked. Still have um on my bike and of course mowers and chainsaws etc. But in auto's, rare this decade. Sure in good shape. 👍👍

Oh my god that thing is gorgeous! They dont make cars like they use to. I’m far too young to have been around back then but I still thing the older cars are infinitely more beautiful than the cars nowadays.

I actually have a 1987 chevy pickup I’m just dying to fix up but just don’t got the time or space right now. It’s been in my family since it rolled off the lot in 1986 brand spanking new. Was used as a farm truck for many years though so not in great condition.

Great thread chaser, right better with the bolt head on. A slot cut in the top of the alignment studs, allows them to be unscrewed with a straight slot. Always put caps on the injectors. Water pump with a serpentine belt. Not common, might be a mad. Get clear fuel lines. Seeing your fuel supply is important. Pully boy advances timing for cold starts. Might even up the idle for warmup with a newish pump like that. It can help you find the right timing. I love seeing/hearing a first start. I remember my neighbors cheering when I got my MK2 TD going. Flashing red LED can mean over heat or low coolant.

Worst steering wheel ever. Huge area you can't wrap your hands around. G60 valve cover. Might be from a corrado. Ether with glow plugs is dangerous. It can fire while the piston is down. Pull the cam journals and lifters and see if the cam rocks,.. to check for flatness. It's a hydraulic block so you can use a metal head gasket from an AAZ. Oh fdamn I'm too late. You work fast. I've never seen a head gasket fail like that. That could be your problem, ha. I live near MC and have a pulse detector and timing light for setting timing.

Thanks! I appreciate all the advice. I've learned a lot since posting this video, but I appreciate all the constructive comments this video has been getting, and i hope it helps others too. I'm in the process of painting my car trailer, but once I finish that I'll get back to the Jetta. I was having over heating issues, but I figured that out once I filled the Rad separately with coolant, and drilled a small hole in the thermostat to help with burping. It's a rewarding learning curve, a lot different from my Hondas and Fords.

Your old gasket was a 3 hole and your new one is a 1 hole, youre lucky you didnt wreck the engine. Pistons may be touching valves still. That is a turbodisesel injection pump which is weird, especially for a USA car which never got turbo diesels.
@DirtPavement

I remember when I ordered the new one it was the proper size, and she runs like a top now. Also, ironically enough, the first car I ever worked on in HS shop class was a TD jetta. That was years ago though. That being said, very interesting about that pump. Thanks for letting me know. What's the give away? The diaphragm?
@noahmacdonald3822
@noahmacdonald3822 6 ай бұрын
@DirtPavement yes the top of the pump has a boost aneroid. Just a diaphragm that gets a boost reference and increases fuel under boost.

I might me totally wrong but i thought the 3 hole was referencing the 3 holes on the tab that sticks out from the head. your new gasket had one hole there
@DirtPavement
@DirtPavement 6 ай бұрын
I thought it was the coolant or oil passages, but I could be wrong too. I'll have to look into it later. I can't remember which one I got now :p
@vwfatmobile3275

The head gasket holes represent the thickness of the gasket. Putting a 1-hole where there was a 3-hole could end up with pistons hitting valves.
