Dude I’m new to the island (PCS’d) here and I’m trying to get into hog hunt. And everytime I search hog hunting Oahu your videos pop up and I love it. You have any tips?
@letsrolloutdoors10 сағат бұрын
Hey buddy, there's lots of hunting opportunity in Hawaii, especially if you bow hunt. Step 1 is getting a resident hunting license and do a a bunch of research on the regs on the DLNR website. I always ask people about hunting spots in random conversation and that's help line up a few private spots. Then there's obviously the public lands. You just strap on the boots and start figuring it out. Archery hunting will give you more opportunities.

@RobMadrigal Thanks! Never thought we'd be back to live here a few more years, but God had other plans haha. Hoping to get some good videos made and post more soon.

Love your videos, and I would love to connect because I think we may have the same career path. I am in Chincoteague hunting Sika through tomorrow, and your videos have brought me lots of hope! Looking for some hunting mentorship for where you have been in HI and maybe Chincoteague!

Glad you're able to check out the Sika deer season. It's a lot of fun but definitely tough. Stay near the tickets and get the wind right. I'm not on the East Coast anymore but will try to help if we can. Good luck!
@jordankoster712 күн бұрын
@letsrolloutdoors thank you! Saw deer every time I was out. Did you all ever try hunting the northern zone with bows? And do you have any suggestions of things to hunt on Oahu?
@letsrolloutdoors12 күн бұрын
@@jordankoster7we got most of our action in the archery areas. Once the gun season started the deer get tougher to hunt obviously. Oahu and Hawaii have lots of hunting opportunities. Check out Hawaii DLNR website to get started. You can hunt pigs and goats on Oahu all year, and there's a bird season. Other islands have axis deer, turkeys, and other wild game. Lots to do, not enough time!

I wanted to hunt there a few years ago. I asked the locals about it when vacationing in Chincoteague over the summer, everyone told me the Sika population has been wiped out after they ended the lottery draw system several years ago. Glad go see they are still out there.
@letsrolloutdoors2 ай бұрын
So many years ago that place was overrun with sika deer. Now it's like many normal hunts - there are plenty of deer, you just have to actually hunt. They're tough, but they're there.

What size (oz) split shots are you using?
@letsrolloutdoors2 ай бұрын
Depends on bait size and current. Just small enough to keep the bait down. Sometimes with the shrimp you don't need any weight.

I live in Hampton and I fish this side of the HRBT from my kayak. Usually I fish for flounder but I need to try for sheepshead. I caught lots growing up in Florida. They're definitely fighters and they taste great. I've never caught any up here. Soon the flounder will go offshore so I need something else to target. I love to catch redfish, and trout are fun. This video is helpful for sure. I have a spot to dig fiddlers behind my buddy's house. Hopefully I will catch some togs too. Those are totally new to me.
@letsrolloutdoors3 ай бұрын
Good luck. We've found togs under that bridge as well. The sheepshead and togs are both great fighters and great to eat. Just gotta keep pounding. Hope you get on em'

Man amazing catches! Is drum fishing best at night? Lived in NC for 18 years and only done lakes and rivers! Have to give OBX surf fishing a try! Do you have a video on setups, rod and reels?
@letsrolloutdoors6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment and questions. Yes, drum typically bite better at night but you can catch them throughout the day. Here's a video I made a while back that talks some of the basics --- kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3utqohnltmsoLMfeature=shared
@letsrolloutdoors6 ай бұрын
I'll work on another video to talk through the different set ups. Definitely want to help folks catch fish. For this type of fishing we usually use 12-13ft xhvy rods with baitcasting reels, 17-20lb test. Standard surf fishing to catch a variety of fish we usually use 9-10 ft medium spinning and casting rods with 14-17lb test. Search fish finder rigs and hi-lo rigs.

Sorry we missed ya. Definitely a great bite! We've been out before where we miss it by a day or 2. This time we finally got it right. The worst is getting out there then the conditions change. I probably would've caught a lot more if I just fished instead of trying to film it all. But it ended up being great for my son haha. Hope you stay on em and have a great summer season until the big drum come back through in the fall. Thanks for checking out the video and for the comment.

@letsrolloutdoors7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Usually between March and April we look for consistent South winds that warm the water to between 60-65. It's a known migration that happens every spring. The hard part is timing up the conditions when you can get off work and be out there when the drum schools come through.

Nice. What line setup are yall using
@letsrolloutdoors7 ай бұрын
We run 20 main line and 40 shock leader. Lots of guys run 15-20 main and 40-50 shock leader. The hook bite leader we usually use 80-100.

Here in eastern nc we run a cork 1 foot less than the depth of water we’re fishing, 4-6 rods out the back corks about 6 feet apart at different distances run at the pace of a medium to brisk walk 1.5- 2 mph. Creeks when it’s cold, the bays and sound when it’s warm. We try and stay in about 4-6 feet of water usually about 20 yards off the bank. Best luck on grubs, white, electric chicken, and a dark blue or purple seem to produce a lot of fish.
@letsrolloutdoors8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. We do the popping corks up here as well. On this river the paddletails are definitely a "go-to" technique. It's great learning different techniques from all corners of the world. Good luck and tight lines. Hope you wear em out your next trip out.
@dustinhardee20358 ай бұрын
@@letsrolloutdoors no popping cork for trolling, we do tear em up on a gulp shrimp or bad shad trout trick under a popping cork though. Clark Spoons do some good work too. Prolly gonna try some paddle tails this weekend and see how it fairs to the grubs. We got in em pretty good last Saturday.
