In America, the key to explaining bad behavior or outcomes is FOLLOW THE MONEY. Q:How much $$ has Jackie-boy made promoting the mutilation of children? A: Too much.

“We’ve taken care of an increasing number of patients beyond 24 weeks”… Maybe she gets choked up at 1:13:50 because she’s talking about aborting babies past the gestational ages of 24 weeks. She acts like she’s a hero; she’s a demented child murderer. Abortion is not healthcare.

ah! i see the thrust. they want digital vaccine verification. an imposition of vaccine passports as a means to force others to consume medical products.

At minute 6:07 what types of graphs are those? And how do you read them?
@JimGKahn
@JimGKahn Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what they're called. They present distributions (of DALYs by disease). You read them by going to a spot on the horizontal axis, eg an age, and the colors above indicated the distribution of DALY burden by disease. Since the total is set to 100%, they don't tell you the overall DALY burden at that age (you could use absolute numbers instead of %s to get at that).

Has anyone ever tried buying auto or homeowners insurance? IT SUCKS! It’s all jargon. Not comparable by the average person. Requires digging just to know what’s up.

So out of touch. As though people go get an MRI for fun? Gratuitous procedure billing is a hospital exec problem, not the problem of the patients you infantilize.
@greg5892

The fact that you usually can’t choose care anyway when it matters most aside, Conservatives just love romanticizing choice. I don’t want to sit here clipping coupons for medical procedures or choosing whether to go with this or that company selling *the exact same product*! I can feel savvy in other more valuable pursuits than being a consumer. I don’t WANT to have to be aware of billing lingo and CPT codes. I don’t want healthcare to be another thing that personally have to manage. I just want healthcare to be there when I need it, and not have an exhibit at cost. That’s it. And if someone else’s motive is to deliver profit and isn’t beholden to anyone but shareholders, that will always work counter to my interests.

Telling here that Dr. Spetz is an economist, while Dr. Kahn is an MD with an MPH. Both “work” in “healthcare” policy. Who actually is concerned with *health*?
@greg5892
@greg5892 Жыл бұрын
The economist has lost the plot when she collapses preventive and acute care with emergent care when discussing incentives. Not to mention, the point is that healthcare should not rely on INSURANCE, which is indeed about mitigating financial risk. Healthcare is an inelastic good. Meanwhile she is condescending and insulting to her opponent when he is much too gracious in return.

Also wait is she joking? The Chunnel? Is she unaware that private supplemental insurance exists in the UK to complement and take pressure off the NHS? Typical conservative spouting blatant lies. And she tries to portray his actual facts as boring while her untruths are supposedly common sense. Get out.

If more and more prices are transparent and more and more people are able to review such services, regular people will be able to figure out which services improve quality of care.

@@greg5892 As someone who is not particularly well-versed in the intricacies of the automotive industry, I can confidently attest to the effectiveness of market forces in ensuring that even the most uninformed consumers, like myself, can make informed purchasing decisions. Through the competitive pricing and thorough evaluations provided by consumer investigators, and the price signals that the market provides, I was able to secure a high-quality vehicle that exceeded my expectations, and at a reasonable price too.

I'm curious about the discount rate. How does it lead to treatment being more valuable than prevention? Seems counter intuitive. Prevention would avoid future growing costs of treatment, so shouldn't it be valued more highly?
@JimGKahn
@JimGKahn 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. The benefits of treatment are generally immediate, so minimally discounted. The benefits of prevention are often quite delayed, hence substantially discounted. Yet the costs for both are immediate, and not discounted ...
