Uan Rasey was a good friend to my trombone teacher, Harold Diner. They were both active in the heyday of the Studio System - the late 1940's and all through the 1950s. Malcolm comes along later in the period right after these guys had more or less retired. Both Uan and Malcolm are incredible.

He was saying how when he came back from a track meet, the studio called him in immediately to play a soundtrack score, but they said he’d be one of 3 trumpets. When he got there, he was the only trumpet so they lied to him/fooled him into playing the soundtrack.

This sounds a lot like what I have taught. "Tone" is a perception which comes from the entire set of elements in your sound. It even includes stuff like the attack and release, any hint of vibrato, the steadiness, or even the slightest crescendo and diminuendo. There is a basic level at which the sound production has to have quality, but after that, much of what the listener hears are the fine nuances like attack. You can get even a small bore horn to sound "big". Studio trombone players have used King 2B horns for many decades and they sound huge. Having similar sizes seemingly can sometimes help blend, but most of it are the details of sound production.

So, maybe this answers a question I've long had...was Uan Rasey that killer first trumpet on all the Tom and Jerry cartoons? Playing that Scott Bradley music that was so demanding - - that first trumpet (all those musicians actually) have always knocked me out. I've never understood why there's not been anything on the internet about that. Do you know? Was that him?

There is an interview on the web somewhere and indeed Uan Said he was playing on a lot of the Tom and Jerry cartoons. I think it’s the interview with Leonard Maltin.

Hey, Check out this racist photo of Congressman John Katko that the media is covering up - ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqWrqIiebtGlrbs ). The funny thing is that everyone in Cayuga County, NY new about it but he still won reelection for a fourth term on November 4th, 2020. This County was home to Harriett Tubman and it was part of the underground railroad. However, Cayuga County, NY is a very racist place.

Aside from bore size (highlighted in this video), what factors should one consider when buying a trumpet mouthpiece? Thank you in advance for your opinions!
@zaknefain100
@zaknefain100 4 жыл бұрын
I would advise starting with the rim. Find something you find comfortable that works for you and that you have good endurance and articulation with. Then the cup for the depth and tone you're after. The backbore can be used to balance out the resistance/feedback you like. Hence, a lot of players end up using screw rim mouthpieces... but you may very well find something you like in a one-piece.
