I have the same problem with my 1948 Cub. I don’t have a lathe,. (don’t know the terminology). When I show the housing that needs boring out from half to 0.688 I am told that the housing cannot be held still due to its shape. So how do you clamp the housing and center the hole?

It's a JK 3.5-5 hp Economy buildt by Hercules. It used a wico EK magneto. Should have a brass serial number tag. They also made a 1.5-2.5 JK and a 1.5-2.5 JI. The JI was gasoline only and I think were painted green and sold as Hercules. The JK was start on gas and ran on kerosene. I think they were made only 2 or 3 years in the late 30's The 3.5-5hp are not very plentiful. The 1.5-2.5 hp are a lot more plentiful. lucky yours has the belt pulley. should be painted red.

Good day from Ontario. I am 74 & my dad had 10-20 I drove it till about 10. It was kinda rough riding compared to rubber dad's was 1937, one of last yrs made for them Thinking back, if u put clutch pedal in it would roll a bit before stopping, but it pull good The exhaust pipe is the same but the other smaller pipe, we didn't have that on? Thanks

I've watched the Snow engine at the Florida Flywheelers run many times over the years. The one thing that you can't experience through the video is that every time it fires, you can feel the ground shake through your feet!

I have the same problem. I hope this fixed the problem. I put three O-rings on the outside underneath the gear. It might work I won’t know until I’m done with the overhaul.

I scrape babbitt bearings for machine spindles professionally and this is pretty much what I do all day lol

I have same plan to use a old car suspension bar to setting alignment tailstock.

He shouldn't be using sandpaper on babbit. The sand can imbed itself.

My lathe is identical to yours mines from 1936. But I think mine says it’s a “11”

Sometimes the back gear slips in because the eccentric needs adjusting.

Never use sand paper or any other abrasives on babit. It can cause a serious demage. Babit is soft and abrasive particles can stay in it.

That’s going to be handy and that old Briggs is running like a Champ! Here’s a little tip from an old crane operator if you know your pulling some dead weight you know like something will no wheels and it will have a lot of drag if you have a snatch block you can put a 2 part line on but you need a eye at the drum to dead end it or if you want you could put another snatch block at the drum you could put a three part line on and etc etc but you would need a socket and wedge to dead end it some operators call it a becket and a get a becket with the eye for the cable clamp hopefully this makes sense and helps you out some day😀🇨🇦🏗🪝
