I went on this train before they took the route out of service. I think it left Paddington at about 11:30am - and that was the only time every day.

Hard to believe this was once a mainline! I’m surprised no open access operator has tried to bring back Paddington - Birkenhead.

Re-opening South Aylesbury would be useful now. Another short sighted closure.

So many speed limits for such a short line.

Ha! Had never twigged before that the siding at Amersham you left has no conrails. Learn something new every day! I believe that the public footpath about half mile out of Amersham (can't remember its official name, but off the end of Longfield Drive) is LU's only remaining level crossing... and none of its trains run over it.

This isn't a line that I've ever worked over and there was loads of interesting stuff. Of particular interest was seeing the changeover from LU to NR Infrastructure, it went a little further beyond Amersham than I expected. Great video.

It looks like some of the line had space for a second track under some of those bridges....

Very enjoyable, and reminded me of some sc-fi movie where everybdoy was gone from the planet. How did this line not fall prey to Beeching?

Main connection from Wycombe to Aylesbury and I would imagine the Calvert brickworks would've had something to do with it. And by extention the binliners from Northolt.

Clickety clack and semaphore signals in 2011. Now that is surprising for the even the outer London region? Ah wait, I get it, they were going to close this line anyway. What a shame!

Of course there will be engineering challenges and the need for cooperation between the companies involved, but I look forward to some Chiltern trains using this route giving the passengers direct access to HS2 and the Elizabeth Line and relieving some of the pressure on Marylebone. And, for people my age, giving a reminder of how important this route was in the 1950s.

In the days when there was still an evening train from Paddington to Banbury, I took it to cover as much of the ex GWR/BJR route to Birkenhead as possible. It proved to be nearly all of it, apart from Birmingham to Wolverhampton and from Rock Ferry to Birkenhead Woodside,

I would sometimes use the Aylesbury/Marylebone line via Princes Risborough and High Wycombe for a change of scenery from the Amersham route. There was little difference in the journey time. Very enjoyable video, pleasant way to pass a quarter of an hour.

I used to live in little Kimble a nice area to be in before parents sold the house down fall was because this route is the shuttle line trains going to princes risborough and to Aylesbury you only got one train an hour which the quickest way was bus which was every 20 minutes but yes little Kimble was a nice area to live very peaceful and relaxing which they are thinking of getting rid of this shuttle line which is what I read whether it's going ahead still I don't know miss little Kimble though

I caught the 10.40 train from Monks Risborough to Marylebone on 18th August 2021 Coming back via Aylesbury. Certainly a nice line. Going to be extremely busy if the proposed service to Milton Keynes begins in 2025.

Sad how this railway has gone the way of the dinosaurs and most of the track has been left to rust away. The rotting signal boxes, abandoned stations, crumbling tunnels, crazy slow speed limits and bridges that indicate ripped up tracks tell a sad story. I guess eventually a train will derail due to no track maintenance and they will then mothball the whole line and sell it off for housing I am guessing it is much faster and more convenient to use the central line to get into London from Ruislip now

Thanks for that. I appreciate any of the cab ride videos you guys and girls take the time to record for us to watch. I remember the Network Southeast days when the Greenford shuttles were first generation DMUs and they terminated at Ealing Broadway. There was a turn back siding between the down slow and up fast lines at the London end of the station. I've done the previous parliamentary service when the Chiltern service went into Paddington. The driver and guard had a chat with the few enthusiast passengers on board during the Paddington turn around. I wonder if GWR will use the 769s on that route when they're finally introduced, so all the 165s can end up in Bristol? To think, that line past Greenford and Northolt was once the GWR mainline from Paddington to Birmingham.
