We must have very similar tastes! I just got both Nova Roma and El Grande last month. I haven't played them yet, but I heavily research games before purchasing. Thus, I'm usually very happy with them once played. I've been on the fence about getting Kutna Hora, not because I don't think I will like it, but because I know it will be difficult to table. It's probably at that complexity level that is just outside of what I can spring on my friends and family. Thanks again for making your videos, really enjoying the vibe. 😊

Where and how do you sell your games?
@BoardonaShelfАй бұрын
One of my local game stores has an annual “Board Game Garage Sale” and that’s where I sold most of these. However in other cases I sell them on Facebook. There’s a group called “Board Game Exchange - the original buy, sell & trade board game group” that has hundreds of games for sale every week. You can make posts on there too if you’re interested in selling your games!

What is the link to the label maker?
@BoardonaShelfАй бұрын
The label maker I use is the Phomemeo P3100D which uses a phone app. However I’ve also used the Brother brand label makers and those work great too!

Nice list! Good picks, but I like the reasons for your picks as well Regarding the Hotness Track: I would personally highly discourage just looking up The Hotness track and picking anything from the list. The Hotness doesn't necessarily represent games "people are into right now", more games people are massively talking about, for what reason whatsoever. Could be controversies, hype, something terrible or genuine interest. Ethnos for example is on the hotness because of a controversial re-release, with the controversy being about how some people love or hate the new theme of the game. Other games might be on the Hotness all of a sudden because of an expansion releas.e This doesn't mean at all that this game would necessarily be a good game to gift another (board gamer). Good chance the person you are giving a gift to might not be into the type of game it is, but I would agree the Hotness might be a good list to look at games that _could potentially be interesting_. Caution regarding the top 100 ranking as well - there is a huge bias on BGG ratings towards more complex games. But I think we can all agree that a board game isn't necessarily better or more fun because it is more complex, but if you would follow that ranking, you'd think it's actually true. You might get something that looks cool and sounds fun (take Mage Knight the Board Game for example) but it might require a terrible amount of effort or commitment to the point it might not be worth it in the end. Some games on there are really good, but for really specific people (another example: Twilight Imperium 4th Edition). So yeah as was mentioned, make sure it's actually something you think your friend would like. Regarding the complexity bias, I think someone wrote an article on this and made a new ranking correcting for the bias towards complexity. I think the number one game that came out on top was Codenames, which in my mind already sounds a lot more giftable than the Current No. 1: Brass: Birmingham, which really isn't a game for everyone. Looking up the list might be a good idea if you are unsure about what your friend might enjoy.

Box inserts, sleeves, resource bowls, card holders, and any plastic/metal/wood upgraded components
@opuppeto40542 ай бұрын
Card sleeves are so annoying and unnecessary, and you say it’s not big deal if someone is damaging your property but it is a big deal, say hey please treat my game with respect, and any decent human being should listen, if they don’t then don’t invite them to board game night, and like how is a flimsy ass sleeve gonna stop a chronic card bender from doing it anyway
@BoardonaShelfАй бұрын
I have found sleeves to be very useful in some (not all cases). You may be surprised with how some quality sleeves can increase the stiffness of the card. Another, and perhaps the main reason I really enjoy sleeves is because they preserve cards pretty well so if I decide to sell or give away a game the cards are basically in new condition when I give them the game. Like I said in the video I’m not as big on them as I used to be. But I do find them useful in a lot of cases.
@opuppeto4054Ай бұрын
@ for people who plan on selling games I see why they’re useful, but other than that they just make the experience less fun imo

@zombkiin22 күн бұрын
@@opuppeto4054 Sleaved cards are much easier to shuffle without damaging, plus I can eat snacks without messing up the cards. Win win.

Dude, the labelmaker is such a great idea! Oftentimes my friends want to help me clean up but they don't know where to put what and I have a general idea hiw I want to sort it, so I do it alone because we don't want to mix things up. With labeled bags everyone could help and speed up the process. Also, the table mat... I made the mistake to buy 4 seperate mats but we never use them because they are either too big or too small. But with a table-sized mat that problem would be gone. I'm kind of irritated that I haven't come up with this idea myself. Very helpful tips, thank you!

my personal intro games were king of tokyo and ticket to ride. i still adore those games even though i play much heavier ones nowadays. still have my copies too. i also remember playing small world way back then and absolutely hating it, but i gave it another shot a few weeks ago after not having played it in over a decade and really enjoyed it haha i played "let's go to japan" recently and it was incredible! if my friend hadnt bought a copy, i'd definitely grab it myself. it's different enough from something like, say, tokaido, that both are worth playing. wandering tower looks SO cool tbh cascadia is in my current top 5. beautiful game, super relaxing and fun. have you played the expansion? great video! these are solid choices for intro games
@boarprince3 ай бұрын
great video! i still need to make the jump and get a label maker. i like using different sized baggies for different components (no point in using a big bag for just a few) and some games have so much stuff i gotta remember which stuff goes in what bag lol. i also love playmats. i use a giant sized neoprene mat for my computer setup, and eventually wanna get a table sized one for games. feels so much better than struggling to pick cards up right off the table
